Mattner to Sydney (Fox Sports News)

Looks like we're the first team to jump the gun.

Marty Mattner from Adelaide looks headed to the Sydney Swans.

Still no details on what for, could possibly be the 2nd rounder.

    Great news if true!

        great news!

Just a bit here about the bloke...

Martin Mattner took on a different role in 2006, playing mainly in defence. His run and carry from half back was important and he was also used against tall and small forwards. He missed two games early in the season after a calf injury but then played the rest of the year and finished 11th in club champion voting. He also polled the second-highest number of votes for the Crows at the Brownlow Medal and picked up more than 20 possessions on seven occasions. Mattner was one of Adelaide?s best in the qualifying final victory over Fremantle. One of the backbone players who coach Neil Craig asked to take their game to a higher level in 2006, Mattner said one of his main aims last year was to stay ?more involved? in the game. Mattner was rookie-listed in 2001 from SANFL club Sturt and along with Ben Rutten and Nathan Bock was elevated in 2002, when he made his AFL debut. He played seven games in his first season, ten in 2003 and 16 in 2004 before showing great improvement in 2005 when he played 24 games.

        Records

        AFC Premiership Matches - 79
        Total Premiership Matches - 79
        Career Goals - 13
SANFL Club - Sturt Brownlow Medal - 2006 votes 11; career votes 20
        Awards Honours
        Pre-season premiership side 2003.

Mattner only missed 3 games for the year and was left out of the side for the crows's final against the hawks.

Some reports that Donkey Doyle may be on his way to the Crows.

Mattner was played in the backline with so-so success. According to crows fans, he is best and most damaging as a winger.

Has great pace and an awesome tackler.

It seems as if Crows supporters want #11 for Mattner,if the Swans do that i wont be happy. They think he is better suited on the wing for his pace and booming left foot.

Marty would be a good pickup for us.

Good news is that pick 11 will still be in tact.

                    Likely message could well be...

                    Malceski to midfield
                    Mattner to HBF.

Welcome to the Swannies Martty Mattner.

Hopefully Heath Grundy will advocate his 39 number jumper and get a lower number possibly Stephen Doyle's (Not that I want to wish Heath Grundy bad luck lol) so Mattner can keep the number he had for the Crows.

I have to admit to not really noticing him much but by description that will be a good trade for us if he can provide similar drive to Kennelly and Malceski. We showed a real weakness there when Tadhg went down and HANDS UP WHO LOVES A LEFTIE!

Wonder what he will go for. Just our second round pick? Lots of rumour that old Donkey may also be involved as the sweetener. One good thing about trading with the Crows is that they can be suckers if a deal involves bringing an old Adelaide boy home. We have several other than Donk, Grundy could be a candidate, or even a straight swap for Fossie.

After 2007 he's now actually played 98 games. But he'll be a good prospect for us no doubt.
