He is too slow to be a KP defender...the only place Id play him in defence is as a spare man ALA Paul Roos in his twilight years.

[QUOTE=liz;340447]Two and a half weeks ago I watched a 196cm, solidly built and highly enthusiastic youngster play a consummate spoiling defender's role against some seasoned, tall and moderately talented tall forwards. Sure, it was "only" in the ACTAFL but the bloke has the advantage of already being on our list. Would love to see him get the chance at senior level next season if he puts in a solid pre-season.

He looked reasonably quick to me and he's bigger than our existing defenders.

I will never forget that vision of him chasing tail in the Collingwood match (Rd 21 I believe) When he:
              a) looked slower than a turtle.
              b) looked overweight

True he is bigger than our existing defenders still think he just wouldn't make the cut as a KP defender.

In that game he looked slow because everytime he got the ball he got tackled.
                He had a shocking game.
It was only his 2nd game, and a big one at that.

From what I saw at the game he is quite quick. Might've been "chasing tail", but he was catching most he chased until they offloaded the ball before he could run them down.

One problem with developing Cheese as a key backman is we lose a skill he hasn't really had the chance to show off in his short career in the seniors thus far, he is a GUN set shot for goal.

Oh well - make him CHF and bring one of the other big young reserves up for defence (White?).

I reckon White could make a very good full back.

If the club thinks White is ready then bring him on I say.

If we were to get Rance with our number 11, he might also be able to come straight into the side ala Saddington.

But the club have indicated they would like to snare a mature KP Defender come FB so they must think that White is still not ready yet.

Schneider for #26. Saints also interested in Dempster (the Leigh Fisher deal? Would make no sense to me). We're chasing Sam Power and Brad Moran.
