The difference is application. Bevan applys himself, Schneider doesn't.
Whilst Bevan is not the most talented bloke, he will always give 100%.

While no one would doubt Schneider is a much better player than Bevan, what cant be quantified is the cancerous effect of a lazy player on the team which Schneider may have been. It can be very bad for morale which means the team is worse off keeping him, than letting him go.

Roos may also have considered that Schneider would get limited time next season - so to be fair on him gave him te opportunity to continue palying elsewhere, rather than keeping him running around in the two's.

That is exactly where people on this board get it wrong, what St Kilda did in trade week has no bearing on what we were trying to acheive and it ain't as simple as looking at this deal for winners and losers.

St Kilda were clearly looking for depth players, Sydney were not.

St Kilda have played almost everybody on their list in the last 3 years, we have not.

Scheinder & Dempster suit what St Kilda need now, Sydney needed to clear a couple of players out of the list who had some value in order for players like Schmidt, Barlow, Moore, Laidlaw, Thornton, DOK and Bird to be given a shot at league football.

Looking at the deal as part of the structure going forward and where our list is at now (with Mattner), Dempster was never going to be more than a depth player and Scheinder's role can be played by at least one of Schmidt, Moore or even DOK or Bird.

So yes the astute football judges in Melbourne beleive that Sydney did the right thing irrespective of what St Kidla got out of the deal.

I think this is the important point.

Schneider was expected to progress into the midfield, Dempster to half back or wing. Neither did so.

They will only ever be bit part players. I think Roosy wants to use those positions that Dempster and Schneider were taking in the team, in order to develop the young guys listed above.

So when the time comes to replace the likes of Kirk, JBolton etc the players will be developed into the AFL system and they can progressively change them over.

Players like Dempster and Schneider were holding that process up, and were never going to take the next step whilst at the Swans. (or so it seemed).
