Actually my youngest daughter is a crows fan (I wont hold that against her) and b4 you say anything JF_Bay yes I've been known to be at the games with her *hides in shame* Anyway coz of her I'm sure I remember seeing the name crows nest.
So in answer to your statement bloodboy.. yes another bird already has that name for their club.
No I don't have any suggestions either.

Ny names were tongue in cheek.

My serious question in all this, not having time to do the research, does the Kings Cross Club have any financial relationship to the SWans? Or is it just another venue for Swans fans to go to and spend their money like the Fox and Lion.

If it has no financial connection then all this re-naming is irrelevant. They could call it "Plugger's Big Behind" for all it matters. Just a venue looking for clientelle.

What's the link between the social club and the Swans?

You raise a good point. I don't think there is a direct financial relationship bewteen the social club and the Swans. I know that membership of the social club is included as part of my Premiership Club package, but that seems to be the only direct link I'm aware of.

Here's what Richard Colless says as part of his Chairman's Message:

"The past year has established a closer working relationship between the Club and the Sydney Swans. To that end we see the completion of the refurbishment as a key milestone in advancing the objectives of the Club to promote and support AFL. The Board perceives the Club as the "spiritual home" of the Sydney Swans and will further develop the association with planned functions and after match events in the coming season."

In that case, you would want to have a look at who is on the Board of Directors at the Club or a financial beneficiary.

There are much better ways to promote the AFL in Sydney than a bloody Club up at the Cross.

I would be raising the following questions:

            1. Apart from a wanky name associated with AFL and the Swans, how else is the Club contributing to the code in Sydney?

            2. Do they donate money to a local Junior AFL team?

            3. Why does Colless support the Kings Cross Club over other venues?

I went to the Club once about 12 years ago. It had rugby league on every channel. Aussie Rules Club, yeah right!

I imagine at a Aussie Rules Club board meeting a few years back they realised they were going down the tube and needed more revenue. OK let's offer the dopey Swans supporters free parking or whatever and they will come here and spend money on our pokies. Great idea....

I will be Ben Cousen's NO 1 fan if Sydney drafted him BEFORE I step in that joke of a place again.

Man, what happened 10 years ago when the club was under new management is hardly relevant to what has happened since the club re-opened & what the club will be doing in future.

It has to be a haven for AFL fans in Sydney. AFL should be on the tvs first & foremost.

Otherwise give Beaussie a life membership & he can hound them out of the club. He & I have had a lot of fun with the silly old codgers who sit by the bar & demand to watch the NRL because "that's what they always did"

Still, having a bar where you can see one game with sound, the other without sound & maybe the NRL/A-League on another screen, similar to what they do at the Alexandria Hotel or Crown down here kind of works for me.

The most important decision they have to make is whether they will make it football-oriented. Or whether they will try & attracted the metrosexuals posers and solarium tanned muscleshirt brigade who frequent placed like the Bourbon & Beef Steakbar.

No, I think the Swans are directly involved in it. Hence going there and getting blotto, a noble pastime at the best of times, benefits our club DIRECTLY!

From what I heard the place was on the verge of going under completely. The Swans were the only lifeline it had, after the demolition of hotels like the Gazebo that used to house people on on footy trips from Melbourne.

Don't know about the financial side but aren't all licensed clubs at least nominally non-profit organisations? Hence no revenue could flow directly to the Swans.

But if you look at the wording of the articles amendment "50% of the board members MUST be approved by the Swans" you will see that the Swans will effectively be running the joint.

P.S. Almost any name would be better than "Sydney Aussie Rules Social Club" or even "SARSC".

Downstairs (pokie den, TAB and bar) now open.
Upstairs (bistro and function room) look a couple of weeks away.

Some very temporary -Aussie Rules Social Club lettering on the door, presuming the name change will occur.

A rather striking plastic red and white swan as you walk in the door, and a carved swan on the woodwork in the smokers cage that faces the street.

Fitout in the pokie room looks good, one big plasma for the moment (watched the Geelong v Pies semi there)...
Pokies seem to be exactly the same as in the old club, some are looking very old, particularly the older CRT screens - they certainly didn't spend any money here apart from a multi-player roulette wheel... Not that I care, won't get a $/ me anyway
