1982 Premiership
We went to a luncheon in 2002 to celebrate the 1982 Premiership and the players there were;
Denis Carroll, Ricky Quade, David Rhys Jones, Paul Moorwood, Max Kruse, Silvio Foshini, Shane Moorwood, Greg Smith, Barry Round, Bernie Evans *sigh*, Anthony Daniher, Tony Moorwood and Stephen Allender.
I'm guessing other team members may have been Ian Roberts, Mark Browning and Steve WrightLast edited by Cher; 13 November 2007, 08:59 AM.CHER - Who has two types of blood cells "RED ones and WHITE ones"Comment

I think my Dad went to one of the earlier night premiership wins which were held at the Lake Ovel (So we had home ground advantage). IIRC he told me that the night premiership was played between the teams that didn't make the finals, it was under (electric) lights.
As for the 50's, you'd have to ask my Dad, I wasn't even a glint in his eye back then.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

People who can remember their first game surprise me, I have no idea, it was before that 1st Semi of 1970, I remember that because I threw a tantrum because mum and dad went to that game without me. Someone who had a final series gave them the tickets.CHER - Who has two types of blood cells "RED ones and WHITE ones"Comment

Why would that be? Maybe its a boy thing.
My first game was as a 7 yo and I can remember everything about it as if it was yesterday.
Dad saying come on get changed we are going out. Eating lunch, me asking where are we going after nearly every mouthful. Driving down Clarendon St. People getting off the tram at the end of Clarendon St. Dad parking the car and saying g'day to the attendant. Me asking who that was, dad saying someone he went to school with at South Tech. By this time I had realised that we were going to the footy. Meeting my Grand Pa outside the ground, walking in, and up the stairs. The size of the ground, the number of people. Had never seen anything like that before. Dad saying to me to make my way down to the front. Standing wondering how everyone knew who the players names were. The only player I knew was Bob Skilton, but funnily I don't remember much about him from this game. Knew no one from Carlton. I knew it was John Nicholls comeback game, but had no idea who he was.
Very quickly got to realise that Harro was Paul Harrison, and Keith Baskin was a star.
Wondered if the "B" in G B P on the scoreboard meant push in the backs. To me a point was a point not a behind.
In the end the game was a draw 78 each.

Here's the details from your first game:
Saturday, 27th May 1967
Sth Melb 2.3 2.6 7.7 11.12 (78)
Carlton 2.2 7.5 9.7 11.12 (78)
Looks like slow starts have been a Swans tradition for a very long timeComment

First game I can remember was the 1977 Grand Final. The first live game was North v Hawthorn at the SCG in 1979. I also played in the little league that day. Our team was allowed into the Kangaroos dressing room before the game. I remember walking past Malcolm Blight (my hero at the time) and thinking "Gee he's tall, I wonder if I would ever be that tall and play VFL" suffice to say, I failed on both fronts...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Unreal, my first game was a draw too, but 1 point less. Melbourne and Fitzroy11-11-77 each, some time in 1959. I was 6 and remember very little, except the score.
But I do remember those electric light games at the Lake Oval. In 1970, my demon supporting mate talked me into going to the night final against Footscray. The lights were not so good, so they used a white footy. The place was packed and any ball that went into the crowd was a lost ball, we lost count of how many went missing. But at half time all who wanted could play kick to kick, there were white footballs everywhere. Footscray won by 2 points.Pay peanuts get monkeysComment

For your info the Lake Oval was the only ground in the comp that had flood lights, but on the bowling green side near the press box it got awfully dark at times. It was nothing short of sensational going to night matches and it was the few times I went to see games where we didn't play.
You could buy a box of Carlton Draught, VB, Melbourne Bitter or Fosters right up until 3Q time and from memory played night games there until VFL Park opened, I think at least until 1971. The games were packed to the rafters and because they were played between the sides that didn't make it to the finals the weather was quite often warm and balmy in the September evenings.
It was a laugh a minute and surprisingly enough a lot of the South supporters came and stood in the same spot even when we weren't playing. So the crowd was the same, the banter was the same but the colours were different.
The soft, seated, hand clapping fair weather supporters of today can point fun at the past but boy they don't know what they missed out on.
You had stars like Skilton and Papley, Full Back John Heriot, Herbie Matthews Jr. the speedy Glen Parker on one wing and Ian Davison on the other, utility Kevin Parker, Kevin Pedrotti, Micky Mulligan, the brilliant Keith Baskin on the HFF, the redheaded left foot HF Flanker match winner Des Bethke and our spearhead John "Sudsy" Sudholz who kicked 62 goals in 1970 the highest for club since the great Bob Pratt.Comment
