But I do remember those electric light games at the Lake Oval. In 1970, my demon supporting mate talked me into going to the night final against Footscray. The lights were not so good, so they used a white footy. The place was packed and any ball that went into the crowd was a lost ball, we lost count of how many went missing. But at half time all who wanted could play kick to kick, there were white footballs everywhere. Footscray won by 2 points.
One of the blokes we went with always took a bag with his cans in and got lucky one night when the ball landed in his lap. Straight into the bag with it. The cops spent the night searching for footies. And you could go onto the ground at 3Q time and listen to the coaches speech and my memory was of players just strolling around not listening.

Ron casey and Lou Richards did the broadcast on 3DB and my fondest memories were of lying in bed as a young boy listening to the night footy. Lou had this repetitive great saying when the oppostion turned it over; so an so dashes away with the footy and kicks it forward "straight into the hands of" and as soon as you heard "straight" that you just knew it had gone to an opposition player.
