"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
Northern Knights, VIC, Small defender, January 20 1989, 181.2cm, 81.5kg
Has risen up the ranks in recent times, with one recruiter believing Meredith could bolt further up the order. Collingwood becomes the final club to open its account in this year's draft at No.31. The Pies have been linked with several names, including Marlon Motlop, Mitchell Farmer, Chris Mayne and Jarrhan Jacky, but it rates Meredith highly. He will be right in the Pies thinking come Saturday. The Brisbane Lions, Sydney and Hawthorn are also in the mix. One recruiter likened Meredith to Nick Stevens.
Bio: Versatile type who is an excellent kick and dangerous around goal. Vic Metro U18 representative this year. From Bundoora FC.
3 SMALLS THIS DRAFT!!!

THis is ludicrous. We are crying out in our development cycle to draft some key position players and what do they do...draft two guys 181cm tall who look to be Ben Matthews clones.
When Hall is gone in 2 years and Barry is retired and LRT is expected to hold down the backline, Henry Playfair is delisted we are @@@@@@.
Add bird to the list and we drafted essentially the same player three times!
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Thornton to FF, Brabazon to FB
Unbelievable.

Veszpremi is the opposite: Mr Action. You could never pick what exactly he'd do, or where on the ground he would do it, but you knew it would be exciting.
He played on when shoulder surgery beckoned, kicked eight goals in one half of a finals game, and should be gone by pick 20, too.
Then there is Brett Meredith, who had a shoulder reconstructed this time last year, when he was not expecting to get drafted anyway.
As his fellow onballers dropped off injured in the preliminary final, Meredith kept running, and should be picked today, or at least made a rookie.

The stupidity of this is that Veszpremi would have still been around second round and could have taken rance with first pick! and now Collier gone too. Well done Roos you @@@@ing idiot. Always has to be @@@@ing unconventional.
Who says he'd still have been around second round? Many pundits had him going top 20.
Both our picks sound decent but they also sound quite similar. Am surprised they didn't go for one tall.
EDIT: Added my more 'preferred' outcome (with correct draft order). Followed by my original effort.
Round 1
Pick 1 – Carlton – Matthew Kreuzer
Pick 2 – Richmond – Trent Cotchin
Pick 3 – WC – Chris Masten
Pick 4 – Melb – Cale Morton
Pick 5 – Bulldogs – Jarred Grant
Pick 6 – Ess – David...
Veszpremi is another player hard to place in this years draft. He was a standout last year as a below-age kid at the u18 championships and seemed assured of being a top 5 selection in the 2007 draft. However, he has stagnated somewhat this year (many would argue because of injury), and other players have arguably surpassed him. Veszpremi is still very talented and clubs would love his style of play but doubts on his body shape and endurance may see him slide to this range. That said, he could still go a lot earlier. West Coast and Richmond are believed to be keen on him but he might be too good for a side like Melbourne to pass up. Having taken an outside type at pick 4, the Dees would love a hard nut like Veszpremi to balance their list additions. Melbourne could also consider someone like Tom Collier, Patrick Dangerfield or Addam Maric.
They both sound like good prospects. One solid Nick Stevens type and an excitement machine.
I'm concerned about the talls situation but clearly they are pinning hopes on Grundy, Murphy, Scarlett to fill the void.
Roos favours the rookie draft to develop KPPs so perhaps we shouldn't be too concerned.

I would have thought that the Club would have had a list of players in order of preference for drafting and they pick the top player on that list if available.
Obviously Roos and co were just trying to get more television time.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.
Vic Crow from Big footy wrote this up about Veszpremi (he has his photo as his avatar)
He has confidence by the bucket load, loves to tuck the ball under his arm and back himself in and has explosive pace. Runs a sub 3.00 20m sprint. He is aggressive, an arrogant sort of footy player, has plenty of X Factor and I am convinced that he will be a superstar. Thing is, he is not really talked about as a really early selection and I think he will fall to Pick 10. In my mind we would be mental not to take him.
Now for a bit of excitement. Today in the TAC Cup Qualifying Final the Knights were struggling in the first. He started on the bench and had an immediate impact in the forward line. He rotated between the bench and the forward pocket and kicked 8.4 off 14 kicks.
He can play anywhere. Great in the guts and has a very strong upper body so he does plenty of grunt work. His pace off the mark and strength often allows him to bust through traffic with the ball. I've seen him play in a sweeping role across the half back flank and when he pinches up forward he's always good for some goals. Today was the first time I've seen him spend a sustained period of time up forward and he finished with 12 scoring shots (8.4) in swirly conditions at Optus Oval.
