Life's too short to do something that make you unhappy. No matter how great it might seem to those of us who watch from the sidelines all the crap that goes along with it; the training, the constant media attention, the fanatics isn't enjoyable for some and turns you off that 120 minutes game time.
I admire him for making this decision in the face of all those who are going to bag him for not being grateful enough.
Good luck to him.Comment

If he doesn't want to do it, why do it?! There will be critics who write he is lazy or soft or a sook or fails to understand there are thousands of young blokes who would die to be in his position.
Too right - and he is honest enough to step aside for someone with the dedication and commitment to doing it.
At least he is rounded enough as an individual to realise it.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
-
From my memory he was coerced into playing AFL in the first place.
Had no interest by he was hounded into playing.
My "lazy" comment was aimed at him telling the truth.
It could also be transalated into "I don't give a @@@@ anymore, and I never did"Comment

Lazy wanker he is. Luckily wins a premiership with Geelong and then walks away. Some players like Tom Hawkins who will play for Geelong with all they've got, might not win a premiership.
The only reason why he made the Grand Final team was because of his last name. Before that he was in bad form.
Hawkins >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>N Ablett in my opinion.
Nathan Ablett's heart was never been in it from the beginning. Why should he be given a free ride by Geelong because of his name, when others in the game, have to work their arses off to make it big.
Geelong won't miss him, and they don't need him. The club will always be bigger than the individual. My words maybe be harsh, but Geelong don't need that crybaby. If only I could earn the amount he's getting. I wouldn't be claiming to feel the pressure. I'll be loving the opportunity that has been given me.Comment

Some may bemoan the fact that most people would give their left nut to be in his position, but he doesn't have the passion and whilst it may be hard for an outsider to understand, that's the way it is.
Your post is so far off the mark the interchange bench is in danger of being hit.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

I guess Hawkins isn't better than N Ablett because the post is way off the mark.
I guess N Ablett was in great touch before the Grand Final because the post is way off the mark.
I guess I'm just wrong hey? If you're a moderator delete the post, because I'm not allowed to have an opinion here because it may disagree with yours.Comment

According to your theory because I'm new to these forums, I know nothing about Football? hmm....Interesting.Comment

What? So you disagree with me so my post is going to get deleted? Gee sorry to have an opinion.

Jesus.
Another thread where you really have to think about whether or not to post because of the drivel contained in some of the comments.
BFD, the guy doesn't want to play footy any more.
It's his job.
I wonder if those who criticised would stay with a job they didn't like because of popular demand.
He got what he wanted and moved on.
Kind of like Bjorn Borg who retired at 26 being one of the all time great tennis players.
It's kind of weird to me that so many people would be upset about Nathan Ablett deciding to move on to a new stage of his life, or whatever he chooses - footy or not.The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

I don't think the guy ever really wanted to play in the AFL.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment
