There is no possible way you can change your strategy and game plan mid year. Even coaches who attempt to change the style over the off season say it can take a year for it to be implemented and work they want it to.

Where Roos failed if anywhere, was not bringing in a couple of fresh faces that could support the intended gameplan once it became known that the group was showing signs of wear and tear.

But it is highly debatable, if Roos had the players ready to come into the side that could and would have made a difference.

Anytime you make the finals your coach deserves at least a 7. A first up finals loss means we don't add to that score.

But as others have said one more win over Essendon and who knows?

    7/10

Not sure I could have said it better myself.

      Rubbish.

Half the competition makes the finals. It's not THAT great an achievement.

Most disappointing season by far. He may very well be a great coach, but tactically I think he gets done far to often on game day. Didn't have any vision (or the balls) to deviate from the game plan even when we were getting slaughtered in different positions at different times. Same bone when it comes to the decisions at the selction table.

I've seen some comments here about if only we hadn't been robbed by the umpires Vs the Bummers. Won Vs Brisbane. Beaten WCE instead of losing by a point. blah, blah, blah. A GOOD coach, on his game, would of found ways to win those games.

Suck it up Roosy. Your 2007 was @@@@e.

Hope your 2008 looks more like your 2003.
Actually I disagree, GOOD players would have found a way to win those games. It's not like the coach can sub himself into the game make a stunning run down the wing and kick a winning goal from the 50m mark ala paul williams style.

Your score is unrealistic. I'd hate to see what you'd give Roos if we finished on the bottom of the ladder... -17???

Have a look at the way we played against Hawthorn. Granted, there was no Hall, so we had to find another way to win. But the way they went about it was completely different to the two Collingwood games around it.

When we throw caution to the wind, we're as good as any other team.

            Yeah I agree.

We're not talking about a whole different game plan here necessarily.

People seem to not be giving the players any credit at all.
They are skilled, trained athletes and anyone who thinks they can only play one way all season is either a die hard Roos supporter (he can do no wrong) or kidding themselves.

Barassi tells his players to 'handball at every opportunity' and turned the game upside down and won after being 44 points down.
THAT was a game plan change that was spur of the moment and effective, AND it was in the most important game of the year, not just a H&A game.

No one is necessarily advocating anything that radical, just trying something different when hope IS LOST during a game.

Of course not... But moving around players that are having their ass handed to them by their opponent would be something that a GOOD coach should do. Of course it's up to the player to NOT get beaten but the coach should make the decision on how long he let's teh beating go on for. His game day decisions this year were terrible.

Correct P46, making the finals with half the clubs in them and coming 8th rates nothing more than a 5.5 given we went down not up for the year. I gave him an extra half because he needed to cope with injuries he hadn't had in the past and he had to mother Goodesy through his female problems.

Highly debateable, mmm. Surely anyone from the 2's midfield would have given us more than the lamentable Jude Bolton.

There is one point i agree on with a lot of people tho,he does have to learn to evolve with the new bread of game.

Coaching like a bloke resting on his reputation and on a long, fat contract. Seems that he has achieved his personal goals and already looking forward to his next venture. Poor season Paul.

That thought had crossed my mind ROK. "I've won a flag so what else is there to achieve now attitude and I'll look after my mates regardless".
