I ran into Ron Barassi at Redfern Station during the Olympics. He'd had quite a bit to drink, we ended up having a chat heading down the inner west line - he got off at Newtown, I continued to Stanmore."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

I met Rocket in Rebel Sport at Bondi Junction years ago. He was friendly and, of course, wearing a tie.
I live in Mebourne now and a few days before we won the flag, I was walking out of my old house at the corner of Drummond and Victoria Sts. in Carlton when I spotted the Swans' team bus mired in the traffic crawling up Victoria St.
I grinned like a fool and waved, punching the air with my fist. Roosy and Goodes both waved and smiled.I was wrong about Gerard and his hair.

I recently saw Barry Round changing a tyre outside a KFC on the West Gate (he was having a hard time of it - and doing his fair share of cursing, as you do in those situations).
So I left my girlfriend in the drivethrough and jumped out of the car to ask if he needed a hand (bending down for a prolonged period was clearly hurting his back) - but he said he was okay, I think he was basically finished by that stage anyway. I also think that he assumed I did not know who he was.
Before leaving I smiled and said "no worries Mr Round, I hope you get back on the road soon." He smiled back and said "thanks mate."
I don't like to give famous people too much grief (such as extended pointless conversations) particularly when they are just going about their private business - I imagine it could get quite annoying after a while.Comment

i was sitting on the aisle where coaches walked today and before the game roosy went up and down about 5000 times and i reckon my wife got in his way about 50% of those. Probably why he stayed on the ground , stewie maxfield was sitting near me but then went to the coaches boxTheres not much left to sayComment

We decided to stay in Melbourne (though we are from Victoria) in 2005 on Friday and Saturday of the Grand Final.
There was a commotion outside the door of our room (we were opposite the entrance to the pool). I opened the door and Barry Hall walked past. It turned out that the team was staying at the same Hotel. Every time we went out for a walk we came across Swans in the corridors, the lifts and the lobby.
To top it all of we had our tickets for the match signed by Paul Roos and Barry Hall. Fantastic weekend!!Last weekend in Sept 05 - The best weekend of my life!Comment

I ran into Micky O with my 4 yr daughter in george st and she was the only person to recognize him out of all the thousands of nuff nuffs from sydney.
I think he was a little embarrassed because she was yelling out "daddy daddy theres Micky O,theres Micky O" at the top of her voice but he was really nice about it and he signed a few things for her.
Yeah AFL is making in roads into sydney. Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

We got chatting to a Swans family in the lift of a Melbourne hotel and the little boy was wearing No 31. I asked him if he knew who No 31 was, and the man with him (grandfather I think) said I hope so, it's his dad! The little bloke was very excited as he was going out onto the MCG that day to run through the banner with dad!CHER - Who has two types of blood cells "RED ones and WHITE ones"Comment

I'm one lucky SOB
I was lucky enough to have plugger wander into the cafe I own today.
Passing through Mildura on his way to ride in an 8 day enduro bike race in the desert. Looks a million dollars - even leaner than when he played.
He graciously posed for photos, signed my sons jumper (cheekily over the Adam Goodes sig) and my "pluggger and the mighty swans book".
The highlight was when he invited me to sit and join him for a coffee. He was a truly nice bloke - not too interested in footy these days (didn't know who we are playing this weekend).
What an honour.
hopefully a good omen for tonight.Silence is golden

BTW my eldest got a birthday card during the week that had actually been signed by about a dozen of the big names (not just mimeographed or whatever), so that's a nice gesture for the junior members. She was thrilled, especially as it's the only birthday card she's got so far.Comment

Thought I'd drag this old thread up in the off season.
Went to Randwick Races yesterday and spotted Shane Crawford at the ATM. Later on in the day my flatmate came up (after being missing for a while) and told me she'd met a nice guy and had a cheeky pash and that I should come meet him. So I go with her to meet him and turns out it's Campbell Brown!! She's not an AFL fan and had absolutely no idea who he or any of his friends were. Big group of old Hawthorn boys at the races (Campbell was the only current player in the group) out celebrating Ben Dixon's bucks weekend.
So I got to meet Dipper and Dermie and Jason Dunstall and a few others. Oh and Crawf too!
Highlight of the day was probably sitting down and having a big chat to Jack Newton (Ben Dixon is marrying his daughter) about the good old Newy days and how his son is doing over in England and stuff.Comment
