One more comment on Jack - a gripe really but not aimed at him.

Before they dish out numbers, I wish they'd line players up from behind and work out who looks similar and then give them very different numbers. I realise that you wouldn't confuse Jack and O'Keefe if they were standing next to each other due to the height difference. But when you're up on the 3rd tier of Telstra Dome and the two are a little way apart, identical haircuts and similar torso to buttock proportions means they can be hard to tell apart. And with one wearing 5 and now the other 15, there were a few times I was struggling to tell which was which when I could only see part of the number.

Yes I had trouble distinguishing between those two as well and I was watching it on TV. ROK seems leaner than in recent seasons.

The 3 young blokes must be played next week . No Doubt !!
Jack & Moore both had more than adequate games and Birdy just got found out what top level footy is all about.Reg Grundy must get better though , he moves like a wet week, especially once the ball hits the ground.
Jarred Moore has a spot in this side as long as he wants it and he took a significant step last night. He looked much more like he was meant to be there and played footy like he probably played in Canberra : Carefree.
Keiran Jack jut gave us something different as well.
I would rather see him make a mistake than watching Ben Mathews playing his normal boring old game. Just glad to see kids playing.

Jack looks like a gun. Very quick and he's hard at it. His disposal is either awesome of complete @@@@. Needs to fins a bit more consistency with his kicking and then he will be right.

Moore was good. Not as quick as Jack but his disposal is a little better.

Grundy is in big trouble if he can't produce in the next few games.

                jack,bird,moore,grundy

All done good things at times
All turned it over at times
These 4 plus Barlow are our future I just hope that the match committee sticks with these guys and gets some valuable game time under there belts.
Interesting barring injury to see how many games these guys get.

Moore and Grundy have been in the system for awhile so you would be hopefull of them getting around 15 to 22 games each this year.
Grundy doesn't get much off the ball but he just moves well I think in the next few weeks he will really take a game by the scruff of the neck.
Moore there is just something about, liked him from the fist time I seen him play

Jack maybe around half the season and bird a few less.

Unless any of the rookies really stands out, you would expect them to play 2-4 games before going back to reserves for a short stint so that another kid can play (Barlow, White, Schmidt etc). Agree that Grundy and Moore would be most likely to retain a spot, while Jack and Bird might do the rotation thing.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

haha your being hopeful des. That will never happen I dont think. Id be far happier if the young blokes stayed and then the others you mentioned came in at the expense of some of the underperforming established players. If Jack plays like that for a few weeks then he should be in the team for the season, same with moore. Bird might get rotated a bit, and well Grundy I didnt think he did much at all so I hope he improves next week.

Bird - I believe that the occasion got to him. I was down on the fence next to the Swans interchange and just saw the somewhat nervous look on his face when he came off a couple of times. Getting caught in that baulk/fumble attempt obviously didn't help his confidence but he looked OK and worth persisting with.

Moore - Showed alot more poise, but after all he has been in the system for 3years now. Should definitely play next week.

Jack - I just love his hard running, hard tackling style. He looks like a good long term proposition.

Grundy - Didn't seem to do much other than his solitary goal. May not get many more chances if he keeps that form up and Playfair gets fit.

One of the few positives to take from the game was the performance of the younger players. Should definitely persist with them all for a few more games. However my player of last year was Schmidt - when can we expect him back & did he have any preseason at all?

Missed the game, but it's encouraging to hear that some of the newbies played well. Hopefully they are persisted with and more can be introduced (Vez, White) or reintroduced (Barlow, Laidlaw).

Seems the young uns will be retained yet Roos also signalled 1 or 2 changes. I'm thinking Ablett and Bevan.
