It's a serious issue and I think Paul Roos should attend AFL House immediately for an explanation. He should also be held to account for Adam Goodes' poor performance and for the difficulty a couple of spectators had in exiting the Dome car park on Saturday night. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Right, so now you can't touch the legs, back, arms, shoulders or head. How the hell are the defenders meant to do their jobs now?
Some people are just so precious. Australian rules is a contact sport yet more than half the body can't be touched in a marking contest. Am I the only one who sees that as just a little bit ridiculous?Comment

Keeping your feet is a footy basic. That kind of thing - colliding in a contest constantly happened to Stephan Silvagni, never remeber Carlton complaining about it, it's a contest.
I think you will find David Parkin told Silvagni he would be a better player if he kept his feet on the ground.
Probably good advice for Riewoldt

Is this part of "the great escape" that the Saints use on Saturday, when we missed the goal in the last minutes of the game? That was a great escape.... I'm sure that the old war movie had tunnels....

I guess that the Swans got too close and they have to make up new rulez to stop us....
Fancy Rossy Lyon's knowing that about us?....Comment

Im not sure about this I remember watching the replay on both occasions and I thought Bolton had purposely upended Riewoldt both times. There's a thread over on BF about this. Someone has produced a link to two supposed examples of Bolton doing this (on youtube)
I realise I am one-eyed about this but both the instances on youtube look to me like optimistic - possibly even unrealistic - attempts by Riewoldt to mark a ball that has been delivered way way over his head. I realise that one of the things that we love about the game is flying attempts at high marks, but at some point the flying player has to accept that if he's reckless he may get hurt. Bolton was already in motion in both instances when Riewoldt chose to leap up. I can't see what he could have done to stop making contact with Riewoldt's flailing legs.
Maybe he's just meant to stand 50m away to give Riewoldt free reign at every ball?

And the free kick would be for.............pushing in the back?.........shepherding?..........charging?..... ......hmmm........is there "tunneling" in the rule book?Comment

Of course not, neither is there a rule for paying a free kick against "ugly" or "Flooding", but rather I was implying that we will be watched even more closer. Not difficult to understand.Swannies for life!Comment

There is a general principle - not sure if, or how, it's codified in the rule book - that you can't interfere with someone in a marking contest. Incidental contact is OK if you're genuinely competing for the ball as well.
The problem I have with the two youtube incidents is that I don't see what Bolton's options were. In the first one he might have been able to make less contact with his arm to Riewoldt's legs, but given how quickly it all happens in real life, to suggest he deliberately hit Riewoldt's legs is stretching things. He was already running in that direction and would have found it hard to stop.
The second incident I can't see much more than a highly optimistic - some might say unrealistic (except that Riewoldt does sometimes pull them off) attempt to mark a ball that was going way over the pair of them. Yes, Bolton was keeping close behind Riewoldt to make sure the ball went over their heads. But I can't see how it is his doing that Riewoldt decided to jump over him.Comment

At the ground I said to DrJ when it happened that we were lucky Bolton didn't get pinged. We were exactly side on, albeit the other side of the ground.
I'm not suggesting it was on purpose, but a free wouldn't have surprised me at all. No real surprise anytime Riewoldt gets a soft free I know, but I doubt the suggestion deserves a
