Swans in the Hall of Fame tribute match???

When i walked out of Ticketmaster this morning, with the tickets to this match in my hand and a big grin on my face, i could not help but be reminded of the excitement walking out of the same place a couple of years ago with my 2005 Grand Final tickets exact same grin i reckon! Doing the trip to Melbourne for a BIG footbal match, its always a highlight of any travelling swans supporters calendar. The historic significance, and potential match ups, make this game one that you will never see again. Never. This is once in a lifetime stuff. Im pretty damn excited about this upcoming match.

The competition, 150 years proud, cashed up to the eyeballs, lead by an ego-manaical expansionist leader, will give us a spectacle to remember. Apart from the last Saturday in September, this will be the biggest game of the year!

But which Swannies will be there with us this coming May?

    Goodes?
    Hall?
    Kirk?
    C.Bolton?
    O'Loughlin?
    Kennelly?

The first two have the potential to get in on reputation alone. The others are a chance to get in based on being non-victorian and having the potential to be brilliant at what they do. Every one of these players has the ability to play exceptional football.

If all of the above show exceptional form over the next couple of weeks i think they will have given themselves every chance of making the squad, and with continued form, the end teams. Exceptional form for the next six Saturdays, thats all they need to do. By the 10th of May the Swans would be near the top of the ladder (as a by product of their form) and these guys would be off to the MCG to represent their States. How awesome would that be!

Either way im going to be there supporting the Dream Team, and hopefully there will be a few New South Welschswans amongst them!

What does everyone think? Am i dreaming with this list?
If the siren sounds in Tasmania, and the umpires don't hear it, does it make a sound?

O'Keefe's another with a pretty good shot at it, especially if he keeps up his early season form. And maybe Leapin' Leo too.

And Kennelly probably only has to be in half-decent form to get a gig because the attractions to the AFL of having a non-Australian take part are significant (they've already announced that those of non-Australian origin will wear their nation's emblem on their guernsey) and he's got to be the most likely of the Irish contingent.

Goodes, certainly, is a chance to get in primarily on reputation, though he may need to show a tad more form over the next month than he has for the past fortnight.

Not sure about Kirk. Although we all know he's a pretty good ball winner in his own right, there are still perceptions of him that he's primarily a shut-down player. And I can't see many players being picked for their tagging ability in an exhibition game of this nature.

Just out of interest, are you sure Goodes is a Vic? He was born in South Australia, but went to secondary school in Victoria, and played for the North Ballarat U18s. What is the criteria they use in deciding which state they represent?

Isn't it based on where you played your junior footy, not where you were born?

SOO used to be where you played your first game of senior football. hence one of the Richardson brothers in the 70's played for WA and the other played for Vic.

Yeah at a particular age if memory serves me correctly.

Someone like Nick Reiwoldt was born in Tasmania, but played teenage years in QLD so would always play for them if true S.O.O was reinstated.

Goodes was born in horsham wasn't he,and then i think played his games for Ballarat in under 18's.

As much as it's going to be a huge spectacle ... I'd hate to see any of the players on the above list injured during the game.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

goodes was born in adeliade and moved to merbein in victoria when he was 13 and later moved to horsham.
he is then able to play for the BIG V as the majority of his junior footy has been played in victoria.
                            DA didn't mean any harm.

I can't say I'm as excited about this match. I agree with the SA and WA people who think it's a rort that only Victoria get to play for their own state.
