Most tagger-types travel in the opposite direction - ie they start out as taggers before progressing to becoming more offensive players. There is reason in that. It is thought - with justification - that playing on the best ballwinners early in your career helps a young player learn where to run to get the ball without relying on them having to read the play, as well as witness first hand some of the tricks of the best midfielders. The very best then progress to winning substantial possessions of their own - ala Kirk, Ling, Cornes, Rawlings, Sewell. The very very best - and those five are probably the best exponents at the moment - retain the ability to completely shut out an opponent while winning loads of it themselves at the same time.
For someone like Jack, who doesn't have the elite junior background of some of his more celebrated peers, it seems like a pretty sensible way to develop him. And as we've seen, he possesses the skills to make something out of those possessions he's able to win now.The edge is not the limit, It's just the starting point...Comment

To be fair on Leo, most of Bradshaw's goals came on the rebound.
Given Sydney were running and attacking, it often left the quick turn-over uncovered, and their main option up forward was Bradshaw.
It is pretty hard to cover a player with the ball rebounding in quickly, and so much space to move into.Comment

Look, I would never want to drop Leo barry, I love the guy, and one bad game does not warrant being dropped, but having said that, Most of the discussion here was centered around performance, and based on which 1 or 2 players performed the worst for the swans against the Lions and it was L.Barry. I think for the first time in a long time, the swans have, what is known in football circles as a good problem, that is...depth. there is no reason to change the squad from last round (although i do feel we need another ruckman in there), but I must admit, it is good to know that we have readymade, fit and able players on the sidelines(N.Davis, J.Crouch, P.Everitt to name a few) who are ready to come into the side, but can't because others are perfoming well.Comment

With bird and Jack both doing an excellent stopping role so far. Surely Bevan is also borderline. We would be a far more dangerous, and potentually a higher scoring team, with Davis in his place. For all the dominance of possession last week, we only won by 3 goals.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

I had a think about Bradshaw's performance on Leo and decided that all the loose-man help (Ted) went to protecting Craig from J Brown. So Craig ends up looking like a hero with Leo left one out with a very dangerous Bradshaw.
Leo Barry is an out and out champion of the club and the question should not be asked about dropping him in 2008.
That said, it would not surprise me if he pulled up stumps at the end of this season. Leo has a lot more in his life than just footy and he carries a lot of pain from game to game and lets face it, the pace isnt there and the sze of forwards isnt shrinking. The Pain of Discipline is Nothing Like The Pain of DisappointmentComment

Anyway put him in the back pocket and see how he goes. McKinley could be a match up this week, or one of the talls WC use to clog up their forward line.Comment
