    South Melbourne Districts FC info

This thread follows on from one I started a few weeks ago to inform Melbourne based fans of the Swans that they needn't go without seeing the Red and White run around just because Sydney are playing outside Melbourne on any particular weekend. http://www.redandwhiteonline.com/for...ad.php?t=24151

The South Melbourne Districts would love to invite fans of the Red and White to enjoy Saturday afternoons barracking for the Bloods as we run around various parks in Melbourne in the D1 section of the VAFA.

Round 1 is this week as we take on Old Geelong at Como Park in South Yarra. Please check our website for details and news as we attempt a third successive flag.
    ONWARDS TO VICTORY!

I would if I was living in Melbourne.

I would watch Port Melbourne if I was.

OK, so maybe it was a bit more than 3 or 4 goals.

            Thx for the update.

BLOODS FIGHT IT OUT TO THE END ? STILL NO 4 POINTS THOUGH

The boys ventured to Toorak Park for the first time and enjoyed the wonderful ground and facilities on offer. After a positive start, despite the five changes to last week?s team, required to be made due to player unavailability, the boys really looked as though they had come to play and they were going to make certain that Prahran, one of last year?s D1 finalists were in for a tough afternoon.

Unfortunately we lost both Nick Haywood in defence and Tim Nall up forward to match ending injuries, which restricted the planned player rotations and forced the coaching staff to re-shuffle the team. The changes made were working well and in the second quarter the Bloods outscored Prahran 4.3 to 1.5 to take a 12 point lead into the long break. The Two Blues were sparked into action by their coaching panel and they came out hard against us, scoring 3.5 to our 1.3. The Bloods forward line was reliant on too few contributors for a good part of the quarter constantly sweeping the ball out of our defensive zone. To their great credit the back six were holding strong and it was particularly pleasing to see Adam Ray show his class as a key defender. He was being well supported by Ada Lane, Luke Kealy and Moppa Holt.

The three quarter time points differential was 1 point in favour of Prahran. Once again the boys jumped out of the blocks hard and we slipped to a 3 goal lead only to see it whittled away by a late quarter surge, giving the Prahran boys a 5 point win. On reflection, we need to get better at getting the ball out of the centre bounce scenarios more efficiently, as too often we were faced with the ball being in our back line too often after a quick centre clear. Our match ups worked well on the day, however we need to be able to restrict opposition?s ability to get the ball clear of stoppages more often. On the whole an encouraging result for our club and we look forward to re-gaining some of those players who missed last week. We are all looking for a big week on the track this week in readiness for our trip out to meet the undefeated Bullants at Bulleen-Templestowe.

                  PRAHRAN 4.4 5.9 8.15 13.17-95

BLOODS STRUGGLE AGAINST TOP FLIGHT OPPOSITION

The Bloods Round 3 clash against the in form Bulleen-Templestowe was approached by the boys with a great deal of excitement. The match promised much but the end of the first quarter the Bloods were confronted with scoreboard pressure that they would have to endure for the remainder of the match. The Bullants flew out of the blocks catching the Districts by surprise with their speed and intensity. As the game unfolded the Districts boys increased the amount of time that they had the ball in their hands, however a lack of fire power up forward made scoring difficult. Highlight of the day was the third quarter when the boys outscored their opponents 5.1 to 4.4 however they found it difficult to carry that form through into the final quarter and failed to score a goal. Some highlights of the day was the return of our Senior Captain, Andrew Hannan who showed his versatility by playing Full Back as if he had enjoyed an entire career in that position. Vice Captain Elliott Costello was again a prime mover in the mid field running with the Bullants? prime mover, Paul Florance. Other notable performers were Ant Rieman who was given a ?lock down? role on another of the Bullants? prime movers and Gary Simm running through the mid field.
After 5 games away from home we finally return to the Lindsay Hassett Oval to unfurl our Premiership flag and to meet our rival from last season Aquinas. They will be buoyed by a big victory last week, therefore our boys will need to be at their prime in order to take the four points. I know that the boys are looking forward to enjoying lots of support from the Bloods faithful.

THE DISTRICTS TO UNFURL THE FLAG

The South Melbourne Districts Football Club invites all of it?s members and supporters to celebrate the unfurling of our 2007 D2 Premiership flag this Saturday the 3rd of May. The flag will be unfurled at approximately 1.45pm just before we take on Aquinas who were runners up to the Bloods last year. It all makes for a great day at the footy so we hope to see you down at Lindsay Hassett Oval this Saturday!

Good luck SMDAFC with the unfurling - it's always a big day.

However, if you were the AFL Swans, you'd have your supporters calling for the sacking of the coach, key forward, a couple of midfielders and half the backline by now.

I guess that's the major difference between a professional team where it's all about big $ and those of us that do it for the love of the game. Hard to sack blokes who actually pay for the privilege of representing the club but I must say 0-3 aint a flash start to the season.

No biggie, just a crack at those on here who are quick to jump off the bandwagon.
