    confident

There's a lot of talk in other threads about the Swans style of management. But are there any others who, like me, feel quite confident that we'll give the Cats a better run than any other team has so far this season?

Back in the Eade days, I'd watch with horrible fascination as the Swans found another way to lose the unlosable game. However, since Roos arrived I've felt strangely confident that the players and coaches - the team - would manage to perform well above public perception, especially when their backs are against the wall.

I think of the Qualifying final again Port when Goodes set the ground on fire - and the 2005 SCG game against the undefeated Saints when we didn't let them in the game while we ran away with it. Sure we fell short in the 2004 PF against the Lions - and simply lost against the Pies in the final last year. But, whether Roos is smarter than other coaches or the self-empowerment he imparts to the players has produced results far above a look at our list would suggest.

I'm expecting us to win at Skilled on Saturday - and beating the other "undefeated" teams down the line. I don't know how - but that might be why I'm not coaching the team (yet). Anyone feel likewise??

During the game on Sat I was daring to dream...I thought we have got a bit of a chance here against Geelong if we play like this...with 2 of their players likely to be suspended..ie Mooney for tripping and Gamble.

AND THEN...it all fell in a heap. A wrist injury to our forward and Mooney got off.

The Geelong sipporters at work have been crowing that there is no-one to beat them and I have said "I know a team thta plays accountable football that might give you a bit of a run". The standard answer is boring fotball don't you mean. That is sooo last year.

I thought we could do it but now not so sure.

It was the Qualifying Final against Port Adelaide in 2003, not the Preliminary Final mate. We played the Brisbane Lions and lost, in the Preliminary Final at ANZ Stadium.

Better go back and fix to "2003 PF" against the Brions or maybe you meant 2004 SF against StKilda, although we fell well short, not just short.

Other than the Swans, there have been 4 premiership teams since 2001. In the last 3 weeks we played and beat 3 of them. Saturday will make 4. That will every other side to win a premiership since 2001.

The Swans have often managed to pull out a win when it's unexepected, which are actually the type of a number of games you refer to.

Their ability to lose the unloseable game under Eade, as you note, is something that has certainly declined in recent years, but they can still do it, and we do every year. But at least now it is far less often and we do managed to string a number of wins together.

This is one of these games where I won't be particularly surprised by any result except a margin > 40 points.

Only the Dogs game stops it being an even longer streak. Next week we play the 1999 premiers and then 2 weeks later the 2000 premiers. It is just the Bulldogs game in between that stops us playing the last 6 premiers (excluding ourselves) consecutively.

But we are yet to win against a Victorian side this year.
