Lets put a little perspective on Saturday.

    1. Slow start: not abnormal, but I believe in the BIG finals type matches, we can come out firing.
    2. Missing from Saturday:
    Kennelly
    Hall
    Malceski
    Spida
    Fosdike.
These 5 would be walk up starts in our best 22. Some may argue about Fossie and even Spida, but in my view we have 3 out of top 10 players and two from the next 20. Take that out of any side, and there is a big impact.

If we can get these back on the paddock, and we can be thereabouts after 12-14 rounds, I am confident we go very very well at the business end.
With the newbies going well, a lot to look forward to.

      Spot on cheer squad.

RP we were very close to over running them with out those 3,IMO if we had Tiger and Melcho we would have won.

You could possibily add to that list of five the absence of Tim Schmidt, an up and coming midfield with great potential.

Against a virtually fully strengthen Cats, (missing just Ottens I believe), with our clearly undermanned side, and playing on foreign soil, there was no doubt that the Swans played with great potential. On current form they are definitely a top 4 side. The other (hopeful) plus factor is that Goodes should greatly improve as the season progresses.

I completely forgot about Fossie. Where are we at with him?

And in this imaginary world do the Cats get to have their injured players (including 2 AA's) back in as well....or just the Swans?

Cats took it up a notch when they had to - sign of a real class team, to blow a team that was extremely competitive (for two quarters anyway) completely out of the water.

The Swans weren't at their best, neither were the Cats.

Would be looking for a couple more great debuts and more dead wood cut before talking the talk of alot of posters.

To put it in perspective - again, we were beated by 42.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

We were competitive in the first quarter???

No way - we were smashed for all of the first quarter and half of the last quarter. The second quarter was a terrific effort with Leo filling in nicely for Kennelly and Malceski.

The third quarter was a mystery. We shut Geelong down very well but what I don't understand is why we played that way in the first place. The goals were flowing thick and fast in the second and Geelong gave us no reason to lock them down in the third, which came at a cost of valuable goals. We should have stuck to the same strategy.
Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sector

With tiger,Melcho and Hall it would have been a totally different game, wether or not if the cats had their 2 missing players as well.

Kennelly and Malceski mean that potentially we are more attacking and direct. That means we could challenge Geelong much better. Doesn't mean we would have won though.

Hall and Everitt are a wash against Rooke and Ottens.

With our top team at Kardinia Park, if not a win, we would have nevertheless gone VERY close to an historical victory.

We had nearly our top team there in 2006 against a struggling Geelong and we still lost (incl Hall, Kennelly, Malceski and Fosdike, and with Goodes in top form, but no Davis!).
