Davey, Whiz, Milne, Didak, Johnston (no e) - do you want me to go on? The comparisons are embarassing. He is slow, aerobically challenged, can only play on a flank and thinks its all a hoot to be unfit and unwilling. He's been given two seasons to get his act together.
Davis Heading For The Tip

I take it then, excepting connolly of course, that we all thought Davis had a reasonable outing?
Yes he looked a bit off the pace and is probably in need of another run or two at senior level, but all things considered, not a bad return?Comment

No way !!
Davo looks much better when he is playing in Canberra because we dont have to watch him in Melbourne or on TV.
Said it numerous occasions cant keep living off that one game.
He was ordinary at best on saturday, not the worst though for someone fighting to save his spot and maybe his future at the club he was dismal.
Davo will be lucky to get a start this week, if he does hope he can work as hard as what Corey Jones will.Est 1874

Harley averages 17 possessions a week. Same as he got on Saturday. The Cats win a lot of games. Same as they did on Saturday. If it was Davo's fault we lost, because he allowed Harley to get his average number of possessions, by the same logic it is those same players that you mention as being superior to Davis above, that allow the Cats to beat them by allowing Harley to average 17 disposals. Isn't it?Comment

Davey, Milne and Farmer are currently no better than Davis.
Johnson is one of the best players in the competition, and he is their main forward target. Just silly to compare the two.Bloods

The days when half forwards stood 50 metres out from goal and didn't venture forth ended about the the time Abba had their first hit. One of the reasons we had a lack of entry into the forward fifty was that we were smashed across the half forward line. Davis as a half forward is expected to get possessions into our defensive 50 in modern football. ROK is a case in point. Given that Davis is one of three players in the team that played on Saturday that cannot/ won't play in more than one position (Jolly and MOL were the others) his efforts across the half forward line were disgraceful. I will give just two examples in the third quarter. In one contested possession Davis and Harley compete for the ball. Davis drifts off the pack and stands on the boundaryside of the pack. Harley peels off in the direction of the contested ball without an opponent, creates the extra man out of defense and runs the ball and kicks without pressure into the Cats forward line. In another instance Davis contests for the ball, makes a second effort and as the ball is kicked along the ground towards our goals stops and puts his hands on his knees while Harley hares off after the ball. I will reference the exact times in the quarter. This is from a senior player in a red hot critical third quarter! Bring a kid in who wants to have a go.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

No, it was the other end. It's not mentioned above that it was Davis' clever kick off the ground out of a pack, straight to a Swans player who then handballed it off to another. No wonder Harley was off chasing the ball in the Swans' forward line, whereas there was no need for Davis to do so.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I've been as critical of Davis as anyone (well, except Connolly) because he can be a lazy little sod and his lack of discipline off-field can, like Schneider, disrupt the team and ruin the only chances of my Swans having on-field success.
BUT, criticising him for failing at the Swans HF line against the Cats is plain dumb. EVERY team breaks down across the HF line against the Cats. Each premiership team (well, most) raise the bar in one area or the other. The Swans of 2005/06 showed how unrelenting man-on-man (and playing for the team) footy can succeed against more talented opposition. The Eagles midfield was a joy to watch.
Last year, watching the Cats (when it wasn't against the Swans and I could be objective) it was amazing to watch how they have combined the flood, shepherding and contested possession to dominate every game. It's like playing squash - you kick the ball forward and it's coming back hard to hurt you as they swarm out of defence in droves. For Nick Davis to drop into a Swans forward structure made disfunctional by Barry Hall's idiocy and then to be blamed for not making more impact just won't wash. It'd be just as fair to blame Ryan for not kicking the goals in the first quarter that would have given us the impetus to win.
For the next six weeks we need Nick Davis in the team. If he lifts to the challenge I reckon he'll end his playing days at the Swans. If not, I reckon he'll be on the trade table. But to drop him for a mediocre performance against a team that made many of our team appear mediocre would seem unjust. Of course, he may not have matched coaching performance criteria of which we are unaware but from what I saw I reckon he'll be playing against the Roos - and good luck to him.Comment

for the careers of davis and the others you mention he averages 12 disposals per game equal to davey and didak more than farmer and milne and less than only johnson.
he averages 1.4 goals per game which is equal to didak and davey, only farmer averages 2 out of all of these players. He averages 4.3 marks a game second only to steve johnson on this list.
He is last in the tackles average with 1.2 but hardly far behind farmer and didak on 1.6 and milne 1.4.
He compares reasonably well except we keep dropping him the other teams dont drop their playersTheres not much left to sayComment
