The Cheese smells a bit off

Now, I know he's a bit of a beloved son on here, but so far this year the Cheese is off.

Yes, he had a bit of the ball in the last quarter, but till then, had done bugger all when it matter. Similarly, his contributions in the past couple of games has been nothing more than a few nice shots at goal - something he couldn't reproduce yesterday.

Now, I know he's still learning and a kid, BUT - other than waiting in space to get the ball and having the odd bang at the sticks, his contribution ain't yet of any note.

Moore yesterday showed in some games you have to go bash and crash your way into a game. Young Bird still occasionally gets caught by the pace of the game but is a smooth mover who shows good decision making and runs hard.

In contrast, Barlow seems to coast and cruise and look for the easy option a bit too often. I'm not calling for his head as I'd rather Roos played younger guys than return to old farts like Matthews.

But I think he needs a good red hot poker up the date and be told to go in and do the hard work needed to get the ball and not just wait for it all to happen.

I was surprised at the amount of time barlow spent on the bench in the first 3 qrtrs yesterday. I think that was part of the problem with why he didn't get much of the footy until the last when he was on.

      He had 73% TOG.

It will be interesting to see if the people who thought that Davis taking a set shot from outside 50 at the death of a game in Round 1 was worthy of being sent to Canberra think the same about Ed's shot on the run instead of trying to hit up a leading forward.

I'll never bag someone for having a shot at goal (and please, can we not turn this into another Nick Davis thread).

I'm not even arguing for Cheese to be dropped.

My argument applies the old Chopper Read advice to Cheese: "Harden the @@@@@@@ up".

No no no, I was wary even of mentioning it for fear it would!

I agree that Ed looks like he is coasting a little bit out there, he looked the same in the pre-season games.

Stell , we had to win yesterday and when he had the shot it was when we were taking the game on. He kicked those same goals last week and Id rather see him have a ping when we are in that position than going sideways, backwards or turning it over.
Also if you think Davo was dropped for that 1 kick your kidding yourself.

Maybe that has brought about the comparisons with Adam Goodes.

                  I was just being silly

He should have given it off, but if he wasn't going to I'd much rather he had a ping than not.

I like players taking the game on and having a ping, but he really should have hit MOL on the lead on that occasion.

Probably right, Magic was the one he should of gone to, though if he had turned it over it would of been worse. Barlow has been kicking those goals on the run this year and its good to see the kid take the game on.

I was at the game and was commenting on the cheese to my old man. I kept on saying look at him he keeps leading to the wrong spots. He continues to lead starting from way to close and by the time he is seen he's about 20 metres away from the guy with the footy. I am not sure perhaps he is told to lead to clear space down the field. With Hall out I would rather him compete in the air as he is tall and can take a grab.
On another note it annoys me seeing the swans continually pass to the pockets. There is no point when 80% of the time you kick a point and have the other team kick in and rush it back up the field easily. I would prefer them to kick to a pack 15 metres out from goal. We hardly ever do this I can't understand it.
