Generally I agree with you. To be fair, most big guys, Jason Ball Brad Ottens, Brendon Gale to name a few play their best footy between the ages of 26 - 32. Guess it is being stronger and more experienced

We are on the verge of having too little experience in the side, with Barlow et al. So IMHO a sensible decision, wait and see but I think he will play 50 - 70 games as White and Currie develop

White will be better for developing in Canberra, did not look ready for senior footy

However the ghost of Chambers past stalks him

A reasonably mobile 6ft 6" player who is strong overhead but a poor-ish kick and who cannot break into the strongest unit in the league will normally get a second chance. This guy may well not succeed, I hope he does personally, but he is not Paul Chambers.

I talked to a member of the Swans coaching staff and got some very frank responses pre-season. Playfair had played back up ruck and had been thrown back at times in the VFL and I asked what role they had in mind and was told clearly that he was viewed very much as a tall marking forward option. White at his size and experience is very much a work in progress and the two players are surely not mutually exclusive.

Thanks. I do feel a bit better about it now.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

I had a similar chat - possibly with the same coach. He said Roos had been primarily impressed by Playfairs ability to lead up the ground and contest a mark, or at least make a contest. They saw him as a second or third option in the forward line, and were hopeful he could snag 1-2 goals a game.

On the other hand I spoke with my mate down at the Cattery. His response was that he showed some promise before a serious injury about 2-3 years ago - however he never regained his confidence when he came back. He was then never considered a serious option for the Cats, and in his only game last year he was the one who spilled up the ball to a Port player when Port beat them at Skilled. He spent all of last year playing in the VFL - primarily at CHB where he was considered a good, steady defender.

In a nutshell - he was on his way out - and for Roos to suggest he would have benefited from Nathan Ablett's retirement if he'd stayed at Geelong is wrong. I'm struggling to see how he'll make an impact here - we've obviously had some success with taking fringe players from other clubs but we've also had some disasters including the last 2 from the Cats. Hopefully he'll fall into the former catagory.

              Sceptical at best with Playfair.

Granted was a pretty hard team to get into last year, though he is slow and his kicking is at best just average.
One thing he does well is he provides a contest and can take a grab and he pretty much is a ready made player.
Will give us more service than Chambers & Spriggs put together.

Seems to of been picked very early though to me.
