Dempster and Schneiderman

I watched St Kilda and Tigers last night and throught the game couldn't help thinking that,on last nights form,we did the right thing by releasing Dempter and Schneider.
Dempster was hardly seen all night and you had to look to see if he was actually playing.I couldn't work out what his role was but his disposals were few and far between.
Schneiderman was in and out of the game and racked up twenty odd possessions.Problem with his game was that eight of his disposals were clangers.
First time I felt the trades were justified.

Trades happen. Schneider was a favourite of many fans - including some in this house. Dempster was a favourite of mine - mainly because he seemed to be slightly on the outer. I don't think we lost a lot in terms of footballers but it was an emotional wrench for a few.

I also think that we seem to have traded away very few players in recent years, so when we did it came as a bit of a shock.

This is what I love about our current coach and administration. Winning is everything, they won't pander to a group of supporters over eye candy players like Schneider or Davis. If the media bags them over ugly football they take the "they'll like us when we win" attitude.

Compare us to Collingwood once a great club, now just a marketing excercise, pandering to some supporters by recruiting players like Dale 'Buttercup' Thomas, players who will never win you premierships, not tough enough.

Thomas is not having a great season. However, he is young and very talented. To claim that he is not tough enough is absurd. He may not be big enough or strong enough (or even experienced enough) to get the hard ball consistently but he has been well belted around in the games I have seen him play in and never flinched in a contest. The way he contests the ball in the air is testament to his courage I think. As he learns the game at this level, and as he learns how to read where the ball is likely to end up I think that he is likely to become a very good player.

Spot on ROK. He looks like the typical outside receiver, but he isn't. He's only 20 too, so far too early to say that he's not up to it.

It's hard to see players go, but the trades were done logically not emotionally.

They allowed us to trade for Mattner (who has been fantastic and a better version of Dempster) while retaining a second round pick and it gave a player like Moore the opportunity to get game time early in the season and cement a spot.

I was for the trades from the start as long as we then played a youngster(s) in Scheinders spot, we have and it has worked well.
