Should be a cracker of a game with nary a flood nor a tagger in sight - I'm looking forward to it and hope they have the good sense to play a game like this in Sydney soon.

The "Australian Football League" which involved Victoria vs everyone else lumped together because we can't think of any other serious opponent.

It's a bit embarrassing seeing all the good players all of sudden come up sore and injured. The same reason why SOO was dumped in the first place. No one wants it as much as people say they do.
The only true SOO is the NRL one. I always feel patriotic towards the blues when it's on and thats why it works so well.
AFL players should be happy they at least get to play rep footy.Comment

Err, swap Roughead and Waite in the Vic side and you might be right. Also, Dal Santo into the centre and Robert Murphy on the bench, because Robert Murphy is a forward far more than he is a midfielder. Also, Heath Shaw at CHB?! WHAT?!
You also kinda need another ruckman for both the Dreamteam and Vics. Goodes won't ruck for the Vics, since he doesn't even ruck for the Swans, and the only ruckman you have for the Dreamteam is Cox. Take out Enright and put in Charman.
Anyway, looking over those teams, I hate to say it, but the Vics look a little stronger. They have a better midfield and forwardline, but the Dreamteam has a better backline. But I'd be tipping the Vics, I'm afraid. I'll be backing the Dreamers though!
Just swap Scarlett around with Shaw and all done. Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

I can never understand why AFL fans are against Representative football.
Compare to RL:
City - Country - ok, that is a farce. No real need anymore.
SOO - Top rep football. The closest the AFL can get is this dream-team game this weekend, because AFL players are spread too thinly across all states.
International - Ok, based on representing your country. Even AFL players reject this with the international rules.
I would have thought the Vic's v rest is about the best rep football conceivable in Australian Rules at the moment. I'll be watching. With a team of this quality, you can see how the swans stars go against the best, and with the assistance of lace-out passes from the other players.
Say Willie Mason got a major injury in the Test on Friday night that put him out for the rest of the year. IF I were an easts fan, I'd be pretty pissed off. They paid a lot of money for him, and should he get injured ... ????.
Bringing it back to AFL ... if one of our guys gets injured this weekend - I'll sue. Sure, it's probably an honour for them to get picked and all, but there's really no need to risk injury.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

IMO - all exhibition matches SHOULD be played at the end of the season.

AFL fans whine too much (we have heard for a while now how much Vic fans want SOO back) and when something is finally done then they whine about how lame it is rather than embracing it. Much like this game.Comment

Rubbish. It's happened in the past and I haven't seen fans of NRL be up in arms over it. Actually when i used to follow Parra in the 80s it was a honour seeing 6 parra players picked for both NSW and Australia. It gave me the satisfaction of knowing the team i followed had the best players.

Our players however, get the chance to be named in team that may or may not go over to Ireland and play the best of their amateur competition.
I just don't think that a SOO game in AFL is that important in the whole scheme of things. In a questionable pre-season competition where there were a lot of ACL-type injuries, and a few more going down since, we really don't need to take the risk of injuring THE BEST PLAYERS from each team - not just the swans.
You're taking players who don't train together and putting them into two teams for an exhibition match - pretty much early-mid season. Not a good time to do it. What's the odds one or two of them forget where they are and smash one of their own players?Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Goodes a Victorian
Interesting to note that the Victorians, who boo Goodes "the protected species" every time he gets the ball, want him in their team so badly that it doesn't matter he is a South Australian! Surely this confirms that it's just jealousy that he plays for Sydney and nothing more.Comment

Tadhg is now out of the Dream Team, apparently injured. On one hand I am disappointed because I'd have loved to see him line up with all those great players and he would certainly have been a story, playing in this game. But on the other hand, he's had sore hammies for a few weeks now and I'd hate to lose him for a month out of this game.Comment

I'd be surprised if roughhead didnt come in for brown at the last minute. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

And they are being flushed down the dunny. About as riveting as a Melbourne tourist promo. This fiasco is a testament to the parochial Melbourne suburban mentality that is ruining the game.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

No sign of the final teams then....anyone? Only 25 to play from the 30 man squads. Ablett def out, Johnson suspect."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Final teams were named mid-afternoon. They are probably over on the AFL site if you can face going there. Goodes, O'Keefe and Bolton all in starting line-ups, Kirk on the bench and Kennelly out.
There are some players who are maybe a tad lucky to make the final team. Both Pendlebury and Selwood are in the Vics team ahead of Brad Sewell.
Dal Santo and Johnson from the Vics, and Kennelly and McPharlin from the DT were all excluded (presumably all with injury concerns).Comment

I do not know why Joel Selwood is in the Vic squad for? Surely, he isn't as good as Adam Selwood just yet?
Some strange selections going on.Comment
