Don't forget the Troy Luff Stand. Doesn't seat many but it's very close to the action.

It's a good thing that Benny Cousins never played for us. They would certainly name a boundary line after him given his predilection for long white lines made of powder.

Still exists - we take our very expensive reserved seats there sitting among the opposition fans every week. Altho I originally assumed it was named after the local gossip rag.

This is so fricking typical of the SCG Trust's attitude towards their most lucrative tenant & its code of football. "Why should we name a stand about a stupid aerial pingpong player? We are a cricket ground!"

Um, the SCG Trust should soon start realising a few things
-their biggest & most lucrative tenant is THE SYDNEY SWANS
-the biggest crowds at both venues (since 1995)are drawn by THE SYDNEY SWANS
-the most regular big events at the venue each year are held by THE SYDNEY SWANS
-arguably have the most regular corporate revenue generated each fortnight by THE SYDNEY SWANS

Ok, the ground is a cricket ground. Fair enough. I'm not disputing that for one minute. What I have a beef is the continual line that the ground is JUST a cricket ground & henceforth no stand at the SCG should ever be named after a Swans/AFL legend.

You only need to look to the Brisbane Cricket Ground Trust & their attitude towards the Lions to see how things SHOULD be done. They have arguably the best facilities for fans players & corporate hospitality in the country, which benefits not only Queensland Cricket but its major tenant the Brisbane Lions. They re-configured the ground ESPECIALLY for the Lions. They continually let the Lions play pre-season games at the venue whilst the SCG was off-limits to the Swans because 3 men & a dog were watching a boring irrelevant Pura Cup match there.

Surely AFL & the Swans are established enough to at least put their hand up & have a stand named about one of its players these days? Is is the SCG still the realm of a deluded bunch of arrogant up-themselves so & sos who are resentful to "the despicable Southern Plague" because them people might think it is a footy stadium not a cricket ground any more.

All this in addiction to the fact that the SCG charges people $23 to park their cars on dirt at games, has NO pass-outs or scan-outs at all, charges $4.60 for a 600ml coke at games & has the worst queues for both toilets & a food in the whole competition.

            SCG TRUST-YOU ARE A DISGRACE!

THe SCG Trust to get off their high horses and admit that the ground is not JUST a cricket ground & is an all-purpose facility of which their major tenant is the SYDNEY SWANS. That's all! Not too hard is it?

PS:- The Lions have never had the problems with a rock hard cricket pitch area at the Gabba in the Early Round that we had this season. Oh & the Gabba ground curators don't water the ground (either negligently or deliberately) before big rugby league finals, do they?

Agree with all that. That goose Cavalier pushed the naming of the Pat Hills Stand, now the O'Reilly Stand. Hills was the most useless ALP hack in the history of NSW politics and that's saying something. i reckon they should call it the Barry Round Stand. Not because he was our best ever player but because he led us with great pride and ticker during the tough early days in Sydney. No doubt they will name it after the arrogant little turd Steve Waugh.

Not disrespect -- arrogance was one of the things that Steve Waugh brought to the Aussie cricket team with his attacking approach to the captaincy -- his teams did back themselves to win from any situation. Just unfortunate that Ponting has taken that arrogance to a whole new level since Waugh retired. He might be a great batsman, but I've never been a fan of Ponting as a captain at all compared to Waugh.[/diversion]

As for the new stand, meh.

It wasn't the word "arrogant" I objected to.

As for the stand, if not Grant Lambert, surely the Richie Beneaud stand

Presumably the colour scheme will be a tasteful bone? As for Waugh he has to be one of the worst sportmen to ever captain an Australian team in any sport. If it has to be a cricketer whats wrong with naming it after the most exciting and best all rounder ever in the great Keith Miller. He played rules as well so that may be a compromise. Anyone but that Packer sniveller.

The Stands at the MCG are/were named after Cricketers or Olympics. Still no footballers, and they have played football on the MCG for a few years now.
