That would be nice, wouldn't it? It's one of the reasons I don't have much time for the SCG as a venue - virtually every stand has an area where viewing is seriously obstructed. There are areas in the Brewongle Stand where you would see only half of the game, and this problem now exists in the Clive Churchill stand next to the viewing screen. Have a look at the construction of the new stand - how would you like to sit in the seats immediately adjacent to the O'Reilly Stand? Compared to Homebush, the MCG, the Dome, the Gabba, AAMI, Subiaco, Manuka and even Aurora Stadium in Launceston, the SCG is in a class of it's own when it comes to obstructed viewing. It just doesn't measure up as a venue.Comment

Aren't the banners being turned into glorified ads every week up there enough? The Multiplex Living Megastand (complete with spa bath & walking machines & exercise bikes)? The Pfizer Drugs stand, for though of you who get off on pseudoephridrine?
And who'd get the money? You guessed, the evil flogger burners at the SCG Trust!
JF:-I will NEVER forgive them for what they did to us back in the bad old days. It was not the fact they burnt all our stuff. It was the fact Bernie Purcell & co sneered & laughed at us when we asked why they did it. They probably thought "that bunch of losers. Let's kick em while we are down"And they charged us $27000 a week rent so that we would be struggling to even make evens.

was gonna sit down near the interchange area presuming i get the tickets etc etcTheres not much left to sayComment

Seriously though there are plenty of seats where you can get a good view (says he who has been to the SCG twice.)Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

Be careful with the interchange area. You don't want a seat behind the player's enclosures. Try and avoid Bays 31-36 in the Concourse area just to be safe. The obstructed areas in the Brewongle Stand are in Sections 5 & 10, and there are some obstructed areas on either side of Section 7 (I think). As it's a night game, a seat in the O'Reilly stand would be good as there won't be any sun in your eyes.Comment

The call this a "snub" to the Swans would have to be the beat-up of the century. The SCG is a cricket ground first and foremost, with a continuous history going back 100+ years - whether its Richie Benaud, Alan Davidson (my choices) or the Waugh stand they are more deserving than say a Lockett or Kelly.
The one thing that angered me a little was Cavalier's arrogance by failing to acknowledge that Churchill and Messenger were actually league players."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

I'm with you on it wanting to see it named either the Benaud or Davidson stand - although I have a funny feeling it might be the Davidson stand due to his administration of NSW cricket long after his outstanding playing days were over.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

SCG hits Swan's request for six - realfooty.com.au
We will always be nothing more than glorified guests at the SCG. Rodney Cavalier's statement "It is the Sydney Cricket Ground and the new stand was always going to be named after a cricketer" sums it up perfectly.Comment

The architects for the ground should be seriously shot. If we can see the major problems arising before the new stand is finished, then why can't they?
Meanwhile huge problems like the lack of space under the Brewongle/Churchill Concourse have NEVER been rectified. That place at big games is at a standstill. You seriously can't move at all.

Cavalier is so football illliterate he probably thought the Churchill was named after Winston. By the way the Alan Davidson Stand (good choice) would have the bonus of being refered to as the Davo Stand. A fitting memorial to the incandescent career of our own little master.
