That was in the C9 days so that our game would finish before by 4pm (to leave time to show the NRL on delay).

Didn't say we did, that's why I mentioned the last deal wasn't an issue for us on Sunday's.

We used to play 2 pm starts on Sundays I'm sure... my dad bitched and moaned for ages because when they made the switch the pubs didn't know and kept running their lunch menu starting at midday.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

We used to play at 2 but not since the 90's. Then we went to 12:40 and then to 1.

Yeah we certainly did, but a long long time ago.

Pre-1996 from memory. Might have snuck one or two after that. 12.40pm then 1.10pm became the norm after that for Sunday's.

Channel 7 are weird...they have NO idea about the importance of football...a few years back I remember watching a Saturday afternoon game (I think it was against the phylthy pies) and they just stopped the telecast to give us a four hour static view of digging some guy out of an avalanche at Thredbo...NOW I ASK YOU...what's more important...
But that's not as bad as watching FTA footy on the crappy country stations...they've even come back from an ad break to ANOTHER game!!! or when they have the work experience girl on Saturday shift, they play ads after a point is scored...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Fair enough Scotty..I misread and thought you believed it to be a better coverage on FTA.

I remember that afternoon well. I've had a similar bitch about it on numerous occasions. If something had actually been happening I could understand the cross (though I still wouldn't have been happy). It's not as if they couldn't have switched back within seconds when something did happen.

Three other networks were the same of course (I think Ten was the only one to maintain normal programming)

Wonder if Mike Sheahan reads RWO, he's written an article about this very issue, of no Live footy telecast.

No games on FTA this weekend are live.
Ch 7 delaying our game to lead into their news, Footy has gone fwd, ch7 has gone backwards.

The article is not online, as yet, but keep an eye out for it.

I saw that Sheahan article and it was interesting to say the least. Interesting in that HSV 7 (HSV stands for Herald Sun) and the Herald Sun newspaper are the same organisation.

The crap about leading into the news is very strange because I would have thought all Swans and Essendon supporters will now do the exact opposite. They have just lost me on their news for all time. News is news so my move will to be watch the news elsewhere.

I hardly ever watch Ch7 news, and I would imagine the bulk of people watch the same news channel anyway. Only a small % would watch it as it is still on.

I'll probably be diving out to get some dinner anyway and won't see much of the news tonight.

Before this thread goes any longer blaming C7, can I just confirm to you all that this is not C7's issue but the AFL's.

C7 & C10 did nothing but match the offer that C9 & Foxtel had accepted by the AFL. This offer did not include a live Sunday broadcast into Melbourne irrespective of whether it was a game in Melbourne or not. Foxtel wanted that to a) alllow them to pay more money for the rights b) protect their investment in their two live Sunday games.

The AFL could have and should have scheduled today's game at either a 1.10pm or 4.10pm start to ensure that it was played live into Melbourne on Foxtel.

So stop blaming C7 and just get used to the fact that we will not see a live game on FTA in Melbourne for another 3 and 1/2 years or more than likely ever again.
