And don't forget Anthony (mummy's boy) Rocca! Another great kick in the guts!

Aside from his amazing agility for a big guy, that is what made him great. 190cm, 110kg and in the first 5m he was lightning quick. Add to that his super accurate kicking and shrewd footy brain - knew when and where to lead, plus the intimidation factor and you have the ultimate full forward. he had only one weakness and that was Gillies Pies.
He would still regularly kick 100 in today's game. Actually, with the new interpretations of arm chopping, touching in the back etc., he may well have given the 200 a shake. The only thing that would hold him back would be a fear from coaches about relying on one player so much (Roos would tell him kicking goals is not important, tackling, forward defensive pressure yadda yadda). Focal point full forwards are longer in vogue.
Reminds me that as good as Hall is (was), he is but a shadow of Plugger.
One that hasn't been mentioned is Scott Direen. He was a fantastic kick and should have played in the '96 GF ahead of Garlick or McPherson in my opinion.Last edited by Plugger46; 15 May 2008, 12:30 PM.Bloods

Agree Baysey, Kappler, Plugger, great kicks...
The best kick that I ever that I ever saw was the late Bob Shearman (Sturt)...kicking off from fullback he's regularly land it in the centre of adelaide oval...mind you those were drop kick days!!!"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."Comment

I do seem to remember one long range behind late in that year though......We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty.Comment

Derek Kickett when he got the torp going was probably the longest, Plugger was the best kick for goal by far and Stewie Maxfield had the best long low trajectory precise kick. My memory of Bayes was that while he had a beautiful style he missed a fair percentage of shots on the run for goal. Honourable mention for the great Paul Williams.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

Dennis Carroll was a great kick, agree with those picking Direen, was a very good kickout man. Of course Bayes that sweet left foot, Healy and Evans on the run, Williams (accuracy and usage not style) Mark Browning, Ackerley, Keppler, Schwass, Plugger for goal, Tony Morwood, Roosy wasn't bad. Craig Davis was a good long kick, pretty old in his handful of games as an assistant coach.
Of our less well known players Strooper quite good, Brett Scott and Terry Thripp and of course Minton-Connell 46 games 168 goals a terrific conversion rate in our dark days.Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun
