What an absolutely appalling survey. And when I tried to tell them at the end exactly what was wrong with it, I was told that I couldn't use more than 500 characters and had to try again.
I have studied a bit of market research and as part of my course designed, executed and analysed the data collected (with two colleagues) in a real life survey for a professional sports club not so far away from you, me and the rest. So I have a pretty good inkling of what they are trying to achieve and I suspect they will get nothing from this, except a morass of data which misses all sorts of subtlies in what members actually value.
I hope the Swans haven't paid this mob too much. I'd be asking for my money back.Comment

If the club is even thinking about the membership options on that survey, they may as well shut down now. $200 for 2 games at Homebush, or $900 for 15 games over 2 seasons - what the @@@@?

I'm surprised.. That email screamed 'scam', used the wrong name for the swans and was signed by MBH with his name in inverted commas.
I'll buy a hat and eat it if that email was legit and authorised by the swans (whose emails are professional, contain graphics, logos etc).
Hope no damage was done to those who clicked on it.Comment

I'd be very surprised if it was "scam" and done without the authorisation of the Swans. At the very least, the Swans would have had to have provided their current membership list and email details given the emails were personally addressed.
And I am 99% sure that Sydney Football Club is the registered corporate name of the club, even if they trade as the "Sydney Swans".Comment

Does anybody else have a family membership and got asked more than 4 questions?
Not that I'm necessarily complaining considering the feedback about the questions asked, just interested.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Basically, AFL, with buy-in from the clubs, is trying to optimise membership packages - what combinations of package options has the greatest utility, will therefore generate greatest demand at the highest price, thereby maximising revenue. Clearly, family membership is out of scope.
Regarding the link to emailcash that is a stretch of professional ethics. Basically, the Swans have sent a list of members to the AFL for use on this survey. TNS have included the link because they own and manage email cash which is their online panel. By including the link to email cash, I expect they are probably breaching the conditions of the list provision, i.e. list will only be used for the purposes of the survey. The list, by including the link, is being used as a means to recruit the AFL's members to email cash. If anyone can be arsed, write an email to the AFL or the club and make a complaint. He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

Well I just completed the survey. It took 20-30 seconds, not minutes.
First question: Are u a member - Yes
2nd: What type of membership - Family
3rd: Do u support Sydney - Yes
4th: What is your postcode - 2171
Thank you, that's all the questions we have
WTF
Then when u click the button to finish, you get redirected to a site flogging an 'Email for Cash' scheme.
I like the 3rd question. If you're a member, of course you support Sydney. We don't need other clubs supporters becoming members of our club, unlike North Melbourne.

Not true. There are a fair number of people who live in Sydney, love their AFL, and are regulars at Swans games just to get their fix of live footy but who have another club they support. One of the friends who sits with me is a Tigers fan but has been a Swans member for as long as I have. (She is going to be particularly feral tomorrow!!) Another pair I used to go with are Saints fans. I have an ex-colleague at work who loves Freo but is married to a Swannies fanatic and as far as I know they are still both members. And that is just the handful I know of.Comment
