I think we are over-acheiving at the moment thanks to the enthusiasm shown by the young players. But I still feel we have several glaring deficiencies that may well prove hard to fix.

Firstly the form LRT showed in 2005 has more or less evaporated. Footy in 2008 is far more about pace & running in Season 2008 than it was then & I think LRt is a victim of this, being way way too slow both in terms of manning up his opponent & his actual decision making when he has the pill. Worsfold knows that the contest with him & Adam Hunter was a complete mismatch. Old Skunkhead was way way way too nimble or him on Saturday night & Roos did not choose to change this, even though he well could have.

The fact that LRT is stuill getting a game shows the dearth of quality tall defenders we have. Brennan is probably our only option but his is nearly as slow as LRT & is actually a worse kick.

If Darren Jolly goes down we are once again in a complete hole in terms of our ruckmen. We would need LRT to play as a second ruckman again, thus leaving us once again undermanned in terms of tall defenders. He is a dodgy ruckam as well. Besides him & Spida who can really only play in fits & starts these days there appears to be a pretty barren cupboard in terms of ruckmen (not unless there is a big tall ruckman carving it up in Canberra that we don't know about)

I think with Malceski & Tagdh playing we CAN challenge any team in the competition. But how option do those two injury riddled players miss important games, thus robbing us of effective measures of getting the ball quickly upfield from defence. If we bomb the ball aimlessly up forward like we did for much of the match on Sat night we can give up ever being able to compete with the Geelongs Hawthorns & Bulldogs of this world.

Stuill let's enjoy the ride whilst we are on a wave. I didn't expect us to be going as well as we are.

you make some very good points JF- we are overachieving imo as well and we will soon find out where we are at. I actually think we may not be overachieving quite as much as you believe, but do agree definetly that we have plenty of weaknesses that an injury or two could really expose. But if fingers crossed we get a good run with injuries etc and can build up momentum through the second half of the season towards the finals, then who knows?

We're definitely top four contenders. But we've only won one of our four games against top eight sides. Plus we've had a friendly draw to date. We've got to win at least a coiuple of the games against Adelaide, the Cats, Collingwood, the Hawks and Lions in the run home.

ON the upsdie, we have no major injuries and we tend to play better in the second half of the year.

I think the key is Hall. If he comes back in pre-Staker form we can go from being a top eight side to a likely top four side.

Good points JF. A spot of bad luck with injuries could wipe out or prospects for September, but then most clubs can say that.
Re. ruckmen - this year must be our last throw of the dice for a while, as I can't see Everitt going through another season, and I imagine Currie would be a while off.

We have at the very least, got the 3 toughest road trips out of the way and I think that is going to help us for the remainder of the season.
One of the best things for us is that we played the Lions at the Gabba so early in the season, before they hit form. They are a good team on any ground but appear to be getting the old Gabbatoir set up going again.
