I'm sorry about this, but once again i have to mention that twit Schwarz, I was watching AFL gameday on Sunday morning and Kouta and Tim Watson were talking about the game at Subi the night before when kouta said that he thinks the swans can win the premiership, as soon as he said that, well, you should have seen the expression on Schwarz's face, he was like, WHAT?, You've got to be joking Kouta? The Swans? Tim Watson and Kouta both started to explain to him why they felt the swans are a good side and all Schwarz could say was, who did they beat? A team that is 14th on the ladder.(WCE). Both Kouta and Watson had to explain to him that ordinary sides dont come back from 37 points down to win away. He still couldent agree with them, yet at the same time, could not come up with a reason why he thinks the swans are no good. The man just hates the swans. @@@@ I hate him.

So who does Schwartz think can win the GF...Melbourne???
I might have a slight drinking problem. My husband asked me to toast some bread for him...so I raised my wine glass and said "Here's to bread!"

Commentary was worse than the Port game I thought.

Dwayne Russell was rubbish. We lost the free kicks pretty convincingly, but still they howled when potential kicks weren't paid to eagles. Prepared to say Amon took a huge dive, but no replay and he leaves the field a minute later with blood all over his face...?

hahah had to laugh on the way home, goldspink was on with his normal segment (On SEN). They were commenting on Bolton's free kick in the last moments of the West Coast game.

Caller : I herd the umpire say he ducked his head

Goldspink : I herd it, it was a player (that said it) which was picked up on the umps mike

Schwartz : So if you duck your head you'll always get a free kick, players may as well just run around with there heads ducked and get a free kick

Goldspink : Are your ears painted on David? because you don't listen

          I laughed

I heard Goldspink on the radio while I was heading down for the 2006 GF. He was asked what was his best game and he nominated the last quarter of the Nick Davis' Cats semi "there were tons of minor issues but we just let the game run." So he's been reasonable at least twice in his life. . .

I watched the Fox coverage of the game from Saturday when I got home. Normally I don't pay much attention to the commentary but by about the 3rd qtr I realised that neither Dwayne, Dunstall or Lynch commented AT ALL on the play.
Dunstall and Lynch just pretty much chatted to each other on a wide range of topics. Everytime Dwayne tried to call some of the actual play they just talked over him. I've noticed it happens on Ch10 also.
So, out of curiosity I sampled quite a few other games which are saved on my IQ (mix of Fox, Ch10) and surprise surprise but it happens EVERY game.
I really annoys me. when I listen to other matches, there is normally an attempt to call some of the play.
I'm irritated and I am writing to Foxtel (useless I know) to advise Jason, Alistair and Dwayne to pull out some of the late great Clinton's calls and listen to him to see how footy should be called.

This might sound insensitive, as the scope of the tragedy extends far beyond his job, but Clinton Grybas' death was the worst thing to happen to AFL commentating that I can recall. It will be rivalled only when Cometti hangs up the mike.

Bloody hell I miss him. Barring Cometti, and to a lesser extent Huddo, all the smooth speakers are biased and/or stupid (Robert Walls, Dwayne Russell, Tim Lane, etc), and all the half-intelligent and more or less even handed commentators have absolutely no TV charisma (Lynch, Voss, Buckley, etc). Bruce McAveny is in a category of his own, as while he seems pretty bright and fairly even handed as far as teams go, he just doesn't call very well. He gets caught on little things (like Didak's feet, and their intelligence), and doesn't pay attention to the game as a whole. I like him, but I don't like his commentating.

When it happened, I had no idea his absence would stick out as much as it did.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

That's funny - I said the same thing to my girlfriend on Saturday night. I think my exact words were "what the hell is going on, this is not Dwayne Russell's freaking chat hour, call the bloody game!"

Mrs d and I were listening to the North/Port game on radio. "They're not commentators" I said,"They're barrackers." We switched to ABC. Better.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I always listen to ABC radio for commentary, it really is good. The only time they have "barracked" that I can ever remember was for Fev in the last few minutes on Saturday night. They wanted to see history made with 2 players kicking the ton in the same match for the first time ever. It was quite funny to listen to.

What are you thinking of? There was a programme aired (on Foxtel) a few months ago as a sort of tribute.
