Does anyone on here know whether Goodes actually has carry over points? The Herald Sun states that these points no longer count as it has been 12 months since they were incurred yet other reports including on Fox Sports say he has 70 carry over points. I also get annoyed at the reports that say he should go because of his past and getting off. Surely all incidents are judged on their own and past mistakes only come into play if there are carry over points.

That should limit the damage to a week or two at the most with an early guilty plea getting the 25% discount.

Bigfooty posters can suck my BA.....
Who needs the brownlow? I don't care if he is ineligible, look at last year's form, when he was ineligible to win it? He starred and lifted the Swans.
Hope he can do it again this year.Comment

The rules should be changed, not because Sydney/Goodes were involved but because they don't make sense.
The whole idea behind the points system is to smooth out the big drop-off between weeks: 2 weeks is twice as harsh a penalty as one week, but is properly applied in some cases where conduct is only marginally differentiated but the difference is still there. You have to draw the line somewhere. 195 points as against 205 points still results in 1 week as opposed to 2 but it puts you on notice that any subsequent infraction involving points, no matter how minor, will result in a suspended week being brought down on your head plus whatever you get for your new sin.
Or at least it should. That idea is lost if you only need to avoid a points-based punishment for one year. To require a player to more-or-less behave himself for only 22 games before losing accumulated points is a pretty weak sword of Damocles. Especially bearing in mind the majority of players go their whole career without putting themselves at risk of suspension.
Not saying we're doing anything wrong in taking advantage of the rules' laxness, of course.Comment

For whatever relevance it is, I think that drivers license demerit points expire after 3 years.Comment

So much of what happens in footy occurs in a split second. It's neither premeditated and rarely deliberate. What would be the value in having the points carry over for longer?
