Goodes' attitude is worse than Davis'

We all know that stats are meaningless. 4th for contested marks = can't find space, 1st for contested possessions = can't find space, and when he does he drops it, 46 tackles = second to the ball 46 times.

Anyway, we all know it is not about performance, it is about attitude, and his pongs at the moment.

Well then Kirk and Gary Ablett must be absolute spuds.

I don't think his attitude does pong at the moment. He's putting in the hard yards. He's running like a man possessed. He's just being undisciplined. He's getting ahead of himself, trying to be overly physical. It isn't an attitude problem, as far as team mentality goes. He just needs to focus his efforts more effectively.

Davis makes 4 times as many tackles per game than Playfair. Why is Playfair in the side if Davis is out for his lack of defensive pressure? Facts, feelings, etc.

Playfair gets to 4 times more contests than Davis and when there actually tries to impose himself on the contest................

Point is, tackles, defensive pressure, hard running are all meaningless if you don't have the attitude that says I have busted a get to get here and now I want the football so let me at it.

Davis had that in 2005 (see last qtr of semi-final), he's capable of doing it but can't/won't/doesnt want to at present, hence why he is running around in the seconds with not a hint of a return.

You might be right, but I think it reflects a poor attitude if he cannot change his behaviour ie a lack of discipline = poor attitude.

As it was with Hall's punch, I expect that the over physicallity is symptomatic of some deeper (probablt unrelated to football) disquiet.

I see no reason to change Goodes physical style or attack on the football, hell the bump is still legal.

Just need him to adjust the way he is going into the contest to get his body to make contact directly with the body and keep his body lower.

Spot on. It is the soft, lazy option too (though I must say, I have not seen Sunday's bump so have no idea of the context other than it seemed to go unnoticed by many at the ground).

Maybe he's been reading the Mexican press and is trying to prove he's not soft. He just should focus on the ball. Leave the crash and burn to those more suited to it, like BBBH.

I reckon the action you describe is soft, and that the harder play is the Bolton dive for the ball - hence my "soft" comments earlier. Cheap shots are just plain cheap. I think it is ok in a shepherd situation but when a bloke has his head over the ball the incoming player should contest the ball.

Doubt it. He'll get 2 weeks if he looses. And given the hysteria surrounding his last escapes, I can't see them letting this chance go. He clipped the melbourne player in the head, he has 93 carry over points, no chance of getting off. I'm sure they'll accept the 1 week. And Goodsy can have another one of those talks with Roosy that he doesn't listen to.

Given the context of the game , I'd call it unnecessary and stupid rather than soft.

This is the third time this year that he has done something like this - he cant possibly get off this time, nor should he. I think Goodes is the bees knees, but for some to say "if we lose to Collingwood I will blame him" is just stupid. What if Goodes played and had one of his "gone missing" days? which he has had a couple of times this year and he has done pretty much nothing, what would the reaction be then?. I still recall those who cried "Barry Hall has derailed our season" and yet the team as a whole played well without him and had great success. To say that the team hinges on one player is silly.
I feel that Barlow will come in for Goodes, I would prefer to see Davis - but I think that Davis's Hogans Hero's style 30 days in the cooler period has been extended (after consultation with Roos & the Leadership group)till the end of his contract. Goodes needs to learn a lesson from this. Sure we would all love to see him play - but at the end of the day he has pushed his luck, he has to suffer the consequences like everyone else.
