Now that the season is about 2/3's through'we have had a good chance to start guessing who will still be with the Swans next year and who will be gone.

A Club will usually get rid off between 5 to 9 players on their list each year and here is my list, in alphabetical order:

1. Brabazon;
2. Buchanan (maybe if he doesn't lift);
3. Crouch;
4. Currie;
5. Faulks/Schmidt;
6. Grundy;
7. Matthews;
8. Thornton;
9. White.

I have not included Davis because he is contracted until 2011. The Swans would be stupid to let him go and play on someone else's list and then pay him.

Grundy and White, were very close but can't seem to break into the team.

Crouch and Matthews, well time has passed by.

The other youngsters don't seem to have set the reserves on fire. Faulks played well last week but is it a one off or the start of a step up?

No gripe whatsoever. I have followed his career since he kicked 6 goals in the TAC grand final.

I think he has had a great career and I hope it continues with the Swans but sadly there are others now putting pressure on selection which have more talent and therefore his form can't afford to drop.

Faulks was the one with rumors about application.

This is essentially Currie's first year with the Swans. He spent most of last season in Melbourne at school.

You have to be kidding, right?

White? WHITE? This is just his second year, and Roos has shown the confidence to give him a run in the seniors, despite the fact that big men take time to develop. Good key position players are very hard to come by. White is a great long term prospect. With Hall, Micky O and Leo all getting on, White will be very much in the Swans' coaching staff's long term plan for the Swans.

Currie? You want to delist an 18 year old? Not only that, but an 18 year old RUCKMAN (who take notoriously long times to develop) who is currently being named consistently among the reserves' best? On top of that, Everitt will probably not play next year, and where will that leave us in terms of ruck stocks?

Faulks? His second year, and he is also regularly in the reserves' best. Looks like a perfect replacement for Leo when he retires. Did the job on Franklin in the NAB Cup match.

Schmidt? Great user of the ball, something we dearly lack? He'll get another year AT LEAST to break into the side.

Thornton? Tough to delist a guy after doing an ACL. Will get another year to prove himself. Looked great before doing his knee.

Buchanan? He has played every game this year. Not in career best form, but certainly not delistable. Still has potential to be a long term contributor. May be trade bait, but we won't be delisting him or offloading him cheaply.

Grundy will get another two years. He is too good a mark and kick to get rid of. Hasn't played enough games to attract enough trade attention, but has enough promise not to delist.

Brabazon, Crouch and Matthews are the only ones I agree with there.

Some of those names just don't belong on a list like this.

The absolute howler is Currie. He's a very young ruckman, drafted underage and essentially in his first season playing with the team. He has received rave reviews from Allison in what he's contributing. A week or so ago Allison named him as a player who could possibly come in later this year and play seniors if needed. Watching the reserves play this year, he is one of three youngsters that I'd be prepared to say will be definite, no-questions, certainties to play senior AFL and lots of it (with the ever-present qualification of injury-permitting). By all reports he's also a very balanced, pleasant young man too. Unless he's desparate to go home to Melbourne, he'd be in the top 5% of players certain to be on the list next season.

Similar arguments could be made for White. We're desparate for young KPPs. He's a highly mobile, very enthusiastic and seemingly versatile young tall, available as a late pick because he hadn't had the same development opportunities of those from the traditional states. The club felt confident enough to give him a taster of senior footy earlier this year so they clearly see senior potential in him. He's not one of the three I'd be prepared to put my house on becoming a long-term senior player but I still think he's got a pretty good chance of "making it".

If Thornton hadn't injured his knee, this might well have been a season when he had to prove that he deserved another. But given his superb pre-season form before the injury, his consistent performances last year I'll be very surprised if the Swans discard him at the end of this year unless there are complications with his knee that he doesn't look like getting over (and no reason to think there are or will be).

Grundy's been around a while but last year his season was ruined by injury in the pre-season and him being rushed back in too quickly (IMO). He's showing very good form at the moment and with the retirements of Hall and O'Loughlin imminent I'd be surprised to see him go unless it's in a trade for a club more desparate for an immediate key forward. He's another player that Allison frequently raves about, and Roos has said some positive things about him in the past too.

Faulks seems to be coming along in leaps and bounds this year. As pointed out elsewhere, he's been named on the "best" list 8 games out of 9. He's a young skinny raw KPP and you don't give up on them after two years if they are showing something.

Laidlaw, you have got to be kidding me.

We are about to lose a massive amount of senior players over the next two years (Crouch, Matthews, Barry, MOL, Everitt, Kirk), it is highly likely we will maintain most of the current young list and look to top up via the draft only for spots that come up with retirements and player swaps.

• would be very harsh on Thorton considering a major knee injury when he was probably on the fringes of the senior side for the new season.
• Currie aint going anywhere!
• Faulks I doubt wont be going anywhere going on Reserves reports for this year.
• Schmidt I doubt would be sent packing, however could be put on notice.
• White will be given at least one more year. Cant see us getting rid when he has had only one chance at the top level and did decently as well. Has a hell of a lot of potential I believe.
• Davo I can definetly see being traded some Melbourne Club will take him and we can probably get a 2nd round pick for him.
• Brennan I feel may also go if he doesnt get an extended chance in the team.
• I agree on Crouch/Matthews (Wouldnt be suprised if they both are still here but I hope they will leave before its too late/Maybe Brabazon/Grundy will be gone.

Brabazon is likely to be delisted, maybe Grundy. The other youngsters you've mentioned are not likely to be delisted.
