I guess most of us were just desperately looking out for other players who weren't completely awful, most players would have done a few OK things, and we all remember or noticed different ones.

For me the couple who probably went OK were Jolly and Bird. I didn't think Jolly had his best game and his efforts in the ruck were largely unmemorable, but I thought he ran very hard to present an option and to complete marks when the ball wasn't kicked really to his advantage and he had to stretch.

I'm probably judging Bird's game by what I expect from an 19 year old in his first season rather than against an absolute standard, but I thought he tried hard all night and did some nice things - his goal being a stand-out. The HTB against him in the final quarter I thought was harsh. Yes, he had plenty of prior opportunity but I don't think he was genuinely tackled. From where I was sitting (and I haven't watched a replay) it looked as if the ball was knocked out of his hand as soon as the Pies player made contact.
Ignoring Kirk, Jolly and Jude were the only ones that stood out regularly during the game, on TV.
Bird did seem to pop up a couple of times during the last qtr, but was hardly noticed on TV. Maybe you saw more at the game, but there were many players who were seen on the TV, for much of the game.

      Is talent enough?

Many sides would kill for a player who can kick goals and always gets his couple of goals. Also a player who occasionally can win a match in 5 minutes after an interminable frustrating period of play. These players like Johnson i the Cats and our Nick often have the creative flambouyant personality that gets them into trouble with authority. Their raw talent is not always matched by their committment to train.... HOWEVER...you need these players even if you have to carry them for a quarter or two. These are the players who can win a game not stop the opposition winning. If those 11 shots in the last quarter had been handballed to Nick Davis does anybody think he would have kicked 4goals 7 points? More like 8 goals 3points and a real chance of victory.Bring him back urgently, cover for his inadequacies and use his talent to win games!!!

I wondered if anyone else noticed that.
He didn't get a single kick.
Only loping ruckmen get stats like that.

But I'll always keep the faith. Always.
