    What the @@@@ was that?

Just got back from Homebush. I can't believe what I saw tonight, I am so disappointed. Adam Goodes - you have a lot to answer for. It's not just that you've been our best player against Collingwood in the last couple of games, it's that your absence tonight badly unbalanced a settled team. I hope you get out of your system this urge for stupid rough play that cost you your spot in the line up. You owe us mate.

Im glad Im not the only one that feels that way cheer_squad. I tell you it was a hell of a long way back from Sydney to Canberra tonight. But to blame it solely on Goodes is wrong. What he did was stupid and it certainly hurt us, but I dont think he was the reason we were so bad tonight. For 3 and a bit quarters we just didnt run and present, couldnt hit our targets, couldnt tackle, were consistently a long way second to the ball and had no tactical nous to break down a tight collingwood defence. But what got me was how gutless we were- imo noone really stood up till that last quarter and tried to get us going. We were just shocking tonight. Sure Goodes owes us one, but there are far more important questions that need to be resolved out of that debacle tonight.

Of course you're right about the team's overall performance. Why did we play such a constipated brand of football for so long? It must be a pyschological thing - Collingwood just aren't that good. Can anyone tell me - how does a team that kicks 2.7 for three quarters of football suddenly kick 4.7 in the final quarter?

I felt for th lady who sat in front of us - she was tellling me that it had taken years to convince all her siblings and their kids to come out to watch a game of AFL - there about 15 of them all up - and they just sat there and were looking at her going "and you actually think this is good?" so think of all the other people who came jsut for a bit of a look and got dished up that rubbish - they wont be back any time soon and who could blame them.
To blame Goodes though is wrong - and whos to say that he wouldnt have been well held anyway - the way Collingwood played Goodes would have been unnoticable. We were just lucky that they couldnt kick straight - the score line would have been far worse. but I will add (as I have to other replys' to threads - at Nick Davis cant be blamed for it!!! )
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

From where we sat The Swans were in a state of inertia without Goodes running the lines, he is a very important player for us, they must have been rapt he wasn't on the park, Kirk busted his gut as usual to try to rally the troops but needed a lot more help. BBB's repeated pleas to be paid a free kick were pathetic. Just play the ball Barry, heads are taking you and the team nowhere.
To add to our unhappy night, we had a one man Pies supporter cheer squad behind us with the most BOOMING voice
BORE IT UP EM BOYS, KICK IT RIGHT PLAYFAIR, KICK IT LEFT MICK, YOU ARE A LOSER HALL.
Every command he boomed was obeyed, it was surreal.

It was the typical story when we play badly. The signs are there in the first qtr/first half, but there's the insistence on still playing the same crap in the 3rd qtr in the hope it will change things (yeah right!). Then come the 4th qtr, once the game is already out of reach, they decide to start running harder, kick a few goals, give a fleeting glimpse of what they're capable of, and have the fans thinking, there's a small chance of getting a win here, but never get close enough, and end with a "respectable loss" on the scoreboard. The only difference last night was the final margin, usually we are about 2 goals closer.

            I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

To suggest the style of game and/or the loss is down to Goodes' absence is daft. The game was almost a carbon copy of the three we played against the Pies last year and in two of those Goodes was brilliant and the other one he was not one of our worst. Yet despite Goodes producing a one man highlight reel in two of those games, the rest of the team was still made to look clueless and we lost convincingly.

I don't think Goodes would have made one iota of difference to the outcome last night. He might have helped create one or two extra chances (I say might, because his form at the moment isn't close to where it was at the back end of last year) but with the rest of the team as lethargic / scared as they were last night, it wouldn't have won the game.

I'm not normally one to order heads to roll after a bad loss, but that was one of the worst Swans games I've ever seen in my 15 years supporting them. The night promised so much, we had so much to play for, and NO-ONE, bar Kirky, looked like they wanted to be there. Kirky had alot of haters last year, but they can @@@@ off. Kirk is an absolute champ.

I'd be happy if we never played at ANZ again.

                    1. Just remember, nearly all swans team members have haters on RWOL (Bazza, Bevan, Goodes, Crouch, Benny, LRT, Jolly, Magic, Spida, Leo, Nicky D, Cressa, et al...I could go on)...also remember that it actually says more about the posters than the players concerned...
                    2. I concur, Olympic *scritch schitch* Telstra *scritch scritch* ANZ stadium is NOT a football ground.
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

I've just noticed a distinct lack of '@@@@ off Kirky' threads in recent months.

ANZ Stadium, like you said, isn't a footy ground. Good to see we can get 60,000 to the game, but with the @@@@e state of the grass I don't know why the AFL persists with it.

Don't tell me you're blaming the venue for last night's performance.

the condition of the field was absolutely disgraceful last night. A couple of spots were appaling (Just to the right of the interchange benches and about 20 metres in was like abog with players falling over again and again). I dont mind the stadium to watch footy at, but if we are going to play there imo we should be demanding a far better surface then that rubbish we played on last night. Perhaps all the codes should work together so that the big matches can have a proper clear space before them so the ground can properly recover.

It might have been disgraceful, but not so disgraceful that Collingwood couldn't handle it.

We won't have this problem next year (Origin 3 is played in Melbourne) so perhaps it was a one-off, but the standard of the ground was @@@@house. Bolton could have done a knee when he slammed into the turf and it had no give in it.

Certainly didn't help our performance, but no, it had little to do with the outcome. Let's face it, Collingwood's pathetic kicking for goal in the first half was the only reason we didn't lose by 100.
