Just got back from Homebush. I can't believe what I saw tonight, I am so disappointed. Adam Goodes - you have a lot to answer for. It's not just that you've been our best player against Collingwood in the last couple of games, it's that your absence tonight badly unbalanced a settled team. I hope you get out of your system this urge for stupid rough play that cost you your spot in the line up. You owe us mate.

Do you honestly think Adam Goods would have made THAT much difference? Yes, we struggled against the Pies flood when we got to half forward. I just can't see how Goodes would have help rectify this problem, especially as our way to beat it was to hoof the ball high to nobody in particular.

Having said that, had we nabbed a few of the chances given to us in the last quarter we'd have been in a greater sniff that we ended up being.

I'm not normally one to order heads to roll after a bad loss, but that was one of the worst Swans games I've ever seen in my 15 years supporting them. The night promised so much, we had so much to play for, and NO-ONE, bar Kirky, looked like they wanted to be there. Kirky had alot of haters last year, but they can @@@@ off. Kirk is an absolute champ.

I'd be happy if we never played at ANZ again.

Largely agree , but B2 and Jolly were not too bad.

Brett Kirk is - as we all know - the REAL team captain.
And plays that way every week.

Yes, I do think Goodes would have made that much difference, not just because Collingwood struggle to match up on him, but because his unwelcome absence threw the rest of the team off-kilter. I've never seen us play so uncertainly - it's obvious our problem with Collingwood has become predominantly psychological.

Of course you're right about the team's overall performance. Why did we play such a constipated brand of football for so long? It must be a pyschological thing - Collingwood just aren't that good. Can anyone tell me - how does a team that kicks 2.7 for three quarters of football suddenly kick 4.7 in the final quarter?

Mike and I were wondering the same thing ! I wanted to see Playfair in the ruck (never mind if he gets the tap , leave winning the clearances to the on-ballers) and put Jolly + Spida up front in the third quarter , kicking long.
The finessing was appalling , esp in the first half , so we should have tried something different.

Would it have worked ? Dunno - but Roos seemed to break one of his own dictums : "Don't die wondering".


As for your second question - easy ! Pies had the game won and did not need to play as well.
A team getting belted will often take advantage of this in the last quarter.
Plus , their pride would have been hurt - they knew they had to make a bit of a show at the end.
But why 4.7 was not , say , 8.3 - that's a mystery. Doesn't matter : even with such late accuracy , we would still have lost.

And well done , Collingwood. Thoroughly deserved their win.

The three goals he gave up and a couple of turnovers don't help your case either (I do understand that we all see things differently). We were 10 rows back behind the interchange and what we saw was abysmal from him.

After a promising start to the season he appears to be heading back to the last two seasons form again. I hope I am wrong, and maybe it was a one off, but he certainly wasn't alone with the stuff ups.

It is just that he was slaughtered by Thomas, to the extent that C Bolts had to be shifted onto Thomas which meant that we then were an extra tall defender short.

On second thoughts, I think Leo was possibly worse. I stand corrected.

There was no way Bevan was going to be able to compete with him in the air.

He is a good tackler, hard at it, a reasonable kick in space. but his decision making in close is bad and he hasn't improved much here. and against collingwood who give us no space and put a player in front of our leads because they know lrt can't hurt them and leave him free, bevan is lost.

but so were keneally, barry, malceski, mattner, bird, jack etc.

they expose our absence of a game plan when we can't switch the ball or hit a leading forward.

To be fair to Bevan, I don't think it was ever a good matchup.

There was no way Bevan was going to be able to compete with him in the air.

I guess I should add that because of the rantings of a poster I thought I would see if there was any merit to his comments, ie had I missed something. Unfortunately I picked the wrong game to watch Bevan closely, which could explain my comments about him being worst on ground. Had I been doing the same with Leo or Melcho, I probably could have said the same for them, or any other number of Swans players too for that matter.
