I believe Legs was commenting on Davis' inept manager.
I'm sure you're right; I meant that Roos is a good manager of people, but even he reaches limits and lowers the boom. I was following on from Legs quoting Connolly.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
Imagine if we had drafted Franklin or Steve Johnson. What a waste.
Wow, that's a tad ironic since Johnson was a waste until the playing group imposed some real discipline on him. Jury's still out on Franklin - he's played half a great season, but there are many people who see a time bomb ticking.

Johnson had many transgressions and to a level that would make Davis blush. He was SUSPENDED for a period of time and was key to their premiership last year. He continues to play great footy.
I think you've missed my point, which is that Johnston was not marginalised and cut adrift. Geelong dealt with the matter abruptly and with certainty. If Johnson transgressed again he knew he was gone but he knew he was good if he pulled his head in.
By comparison Sydney has continued to act with ambiguity towards Davis whilst seemingly treating him at arms length. Basic psychology - people respond poorly to being treated as an outsider from a peer group.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Um, actually it's common knowledge they tried desperately to trade Johnson but couldn't make a deal - does that qualify as "marginalisation"? The difference between Johnson and Davis is that Johnson decided to make an AFL career for himself.

No, not really. Agree with you last sentence though.

Johnson was almost traded to Collingwood at the end of 2006, but didn't pass the medical and that put the kibosh on the deal.
sorry if this is elsewhere, then just delete. First i have seen where davis himself is quoted. Sounds good to me.
should he be on the list next year? i don't know, but geez he gets a hard time on forums and in the papers when the facts are there are many players who have done a lot worse.

I think we were interested too. Rumour was our 2nd rounder for Johnson. This was of course in case the Spida deal fell through. The Spida deal was approved in the last hour of trade week (as were about 4 other trades).

Real Footy has got into the Nick Davis act. They've run a poll on whether Davis should be traded (obviously inspired by the energetic debate on the RWO boards).
