Goodes was crap beyond belief last night. Even if he is injured he still needs to have a red hot go. If you can't do that when your injured, don't play.

Not sure how bad he was going into the game, but he was really shot after he fell on the wing near the boundary during the game - he got up proppy and was useless after that (apart from the potential of acting as a forward decoy). He just couldn't run.

Couldn't said it better myself, we better enjoy this year, because if this Roos keeps attitude of playing injured players instead of selecting junior talent, then we are in for a big big fall.

The gap between us and Cats, Hawks and Bulldogs is enormous. We will be just making up numbers come September. You have to blood new talent, to have an impact for the years ahead.

Is there any clear evidence that Roos was aware of the extent of Goodes injury, or indeed that Goodes didn't make the injury worse in the first quarter? The physio ran out to Goodes in front of the race in the first quarter and Goodes was obviously gone from that point on.

Roos would have been advised pre-game by the medicos and Goodes himself. I know the OP, Hammo and others dislike Roos and want to stick it to him, but there is a real chance you are blaming the wrong guy.

I don't dislike Roos, I am just critical of him when it's warranted.

In the match thread I speculated that Goodes would have told the coaching staff he was right to play, but should have been overruled. If Goodes knew he wasn't fit then he's let all his teammates down.

There was talk about Goodes having groin problems last week and he really struggled to run or get to contests. He looked much the same in the first quarter. He may have exacerbated it as he looked even worse after that.

I addressed this in another thread (I forget which one now), but I'll paraphrase here.

Goodes carried the same injury last week, and still managed to have an impact when he went forward. The plan was obviously the same last night. Unfortunately, nobody predicted how horrible the delivery into the forward line would be, and how well the Crows defenders would read it. The idea was right, it just didn't come off due to other factors, and unfortunately for Goodesy his groin flared up as the game went on, making things worse.
