Laidley raises the issue of tunnelling

It seems the nastiness has begun with Laidley issuing the topic of tunnelling before this weeks game. I hope that we smash the Roos into the ground, whinging pests.

"NORTH MELBOURNE coach Dean Laidley has raised the controversial issue of 'tunnelling' with the AFL umpires department in the lead-up to his side's clash with Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

Laidley said after viewing the Roos-Swans match from round six on video last night that the issue needed to be addressed with the umpiring department ahead of the clubs' elimination final.

"One of our assistant coaches spoke to [AFL Umpires Coach] Rowan [Sawers] this morning," Laidley said.

"We want our key forwards to have a good run at the football."

Shows he is worried about the Swans. He shouldn't be worried about tunnelling, he hasn't got a decent full forward to tunnell or kick a score.

North will bring a lot of fear into this game. Excellent news.

Just watched a snippet on Fox News.

I'm actually quite taken aback, it's a much worse attack than I'd have imagined any opposition coach would try on, Laidley really gets into us and names players. B2 and Leo both get a mention of players 'that are very good at tunnelling'.

            The gloves are off now.

I'm tipping this press conference with Laidley will get a good run on 'On the Couch' tonight, very unusual for this type of behaviour.

@@@@ you Laidley. You're obviously grasping at straws now and I hope Roos uses this attack as motivation. Poor form.

What a nasty piece of work he is. Not our fault he isn't a Premiership Coach and lost 4th spot.

Complained about the umps earlier in the year, after they had won.

Needs to keep his mouth closed and coach.

Meh. They're worried. They thought they'd cruise into 4th, got belted by Port now have a sudden death final at a ground they've never played at in a city where they don't have much support (oh hang on, that's every city...). Laidley's feeling the pressure after a 22 round plan has fallen apart in one afternoon.

It'll just fire the crowd up even more.

The 19 men on the field incident will be the next thing he'll mention.

                        What a desperate pathetic move.

Is Sydney in such good form that you need to snare 5 more soft free kicks to win against us?

Usually you only ring the Umps if you've gotten a raw deal from the Umps. The Dog has taken the rare step and decided that the lob sided free kick count against us (as is usual) is just not enough for his Roos. He's asking the Umps to conjur up some new ones that nobody's heard of before.

The fact Laidley brought the issue up unprompted and very publicly shows he is out and out trying to influence the umpires. Will be interesting to see how the Swans react - strongly I hope.

Its amazing you say that. On before the game (saturday night) with Adam Simspon, he made a smart remark about the 19 players and along the lines that cost them 4th also. Not just the thumping from the power.

A good tatctical move. He's looking for frees anytime his forwards are touched 'down below' when airbourne. Every 1% helps. It'll be a tight game I reckon. Maybe a draw. Roos needs to look for umpiring sympathy also.
