Not from what i saw. He fills the red hot defensive corridor. To say that Grant embarrassed him is ridiculous and shows a complete lack of understanding of defensive play. Ditto criticizing a defender going for the punch on a wet night. Significantly, he was the only defender to be so criticized. If you want to look at defenders with ordinary nights try Kenneally and Barry. Milceski and Vezpremi were only very average as well.

Don't know if you were at the ground but your comments re. Bevo are wrong. Grant snagged two just before half time, one a slipper off the ground. Apart from that Bevo had his measure. As for the usual knocker criticizing him for punching the ball FFS it WAS WET, DRIPPING, BLOODY SLIPPERY. Standard defensive rulebook to punch in those circumstances. Great win. Great celebration. Just got home. Bring on the yappers.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

My summary:
Hall - what a much better player he is when he is a team man. Absolutely outstanding game.
Buchanan - best game for a couple of years. Had his old run back and made a huge difference in the midfiled.
Jude - kept up his consistency and again kept his feet most of the time.
Bevo - struggled to keep up with Grant but he didn't make many glaring mistakes. I didn't hink he was that bad. North only kicked 11 goals.
Goodes - class second half and really made a difference on the ball.
ROK - top second half and those long penetrating kicks made a huge impact.
Spida - no. When he went on the ball in the 3rd Q North kicked 2 quick goals from quick centre clearances.
McVeigh - went to another level.
Crouch - struggled, but like Bevo was part of a backline that only conceded 11 goals.
Kirk -A star.
Malceski - Looked a bit soft.
LRT - always hard to assess.
Richards - good last Q.
Kennelly - good last quarter and seemed to be a loose man.
Leo - Actually got better as the game went on.
Mattner - serviceable and hard as usual.
Bolts - Serviceable without starring.
Vespa - lovely cameo.
Jack - his best game by far and went to another level.
Ablett - generally poor but did a couple of OK things in the last q.
Jolly - I reckon Roos has rested him the last few weeks because he was superb.
Moore - Just worked so hard all game. Went to the finals level.
LOL @ LRT. He was serviceable, but no star.
It seems Everitt is getting more of the ball in recent games, but his ruck work will never be what it used to be.
Thought Buchanan was terrific, agree with you on his best for a while.
B2 didn't do much, but then neither did his opponent, Shagger, in the 2nd half.
It's interesting how Ablett, B1 and Kirk get the ball out of the centre by foot quickly, that when we play in front the ball generally landed in our laps.
Malceski is a shell of his former self. We can only hope he returns better next year.
Over all a good team effort.Comment

Yes it is...in a marking contest. Not when you are standing by yourself. He did that at least twice. BTW look at the AFL player ratings (in another thread), the two worst Swans players according to that were Bevan and Crouch. Pretty hard to argue with what that writer and everyone else (except for you of course) saw.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

For those of you who couldn't see on the tv, Kennelly's oponent was shouldering him and trying to pop his shoulder for him. Very dirty and very deliberate front on contact, which is his achilles area. Typical junk yard dog tactics. I don't have a problem when one of ours does the best he can with what he has got. He was still an important part of the team. Probably taped up to the max under those long sleeves, and not able to move his arms like he usually does.
Other than that, it was a bldy brilliant night out, full of genuine footy freaks who watched the game from end to end, instead of discussing their boyfriends, or what Bozo is doing on his overseas trip. Give me a small crowd of dedicated any day. Great stuff. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

"Roosy felt some of us were going at half pace," Swans midfielder Jude Bolton said. "At halftime he said he could guarantee if we all got on board and played at 100 per cent like Leo Barry, that we'd walk away with a win."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.

So there's shocker and... blinder? Just two levels in your book obviously...
"Roosy felt some of us were going at half pace," Swans midfielder Jude Bolton said. "At halftime he said he could guarantee if we all got on board and played at 100 per cent like Leo Barry, that we'd walk away with a win."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Defensive play includes both watching the ball flight and staying close to the opponent. Bevan can only cope with one at a time - invariably the first - and obviously some like yourself only know how to look for one.
Have a good look at him and watch how far his opponent gets away from him when the ball approaches and in critical contested stoppages. Then watch a professional like Crouch in his prime."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
