You tend to find this sort of attitude is spread by the mainstream media so as to generate more surface level hype & interest during the finals time. The Sydney media tried it during the week of the NRL Grand Final & tried to whip up anti Melbourne Storm sentiment. The stupid casual numbnuts who believe what they read in the Terror got off on it. But for most league fans the thought of going for Manly is as ridiculous as going for Collingwood.

You wonder who people would go for here if the GF was Collingwood vs West Coast. I'd have to say I'd not watch a GF if both those teams were playing.

Either way it is still club football.

I'm not going to support the new Western Sydney team if in the future the Swans are not playing simply because they reside in NSW, or another team if it cropped up in South Melbourne.

If you support the city of Sydney, or the state of NSW in anything they do that's fine, but the club is more than / less than, all or any of that. It exists outside those bounds because it is a football club.

Who cares if a Victorian, SA, WA, or QLD team wins the flag if we don't.

Maybe I'm just not that parochial (or jingoistic).

I'm with you an all of this Matty.

I'm not one for supporting AFL and having to watch every match I can. If the Swans aren't playing, I'm not really interested.

I'm guilty of watching 2 full games(SSvNM PiesvCrows), , 1/2 game(CatsvStK), and about a qtr of the other match. Most I've watched in a long time.

Interesting the 2 I struggled to watch were on Ch7. No coincidence there.

Not me. I can't get enough.

Like Scott, Ch7 pissed me off on the weekend with all the ads, but that is because we are spoilt in Sydney with 5 ad free live games every weekend.

I find it hard to fathom that people can have no interest in a game just because the Swans aren't playing.

I'll circle games that I'm interested in in the TV guide, but if I have something better to do, then I'll miss the game.
For instance, I watched the third quarter of the Saints/Cats game.
Missed the first half because I promised my son that I'd help him trade his old DS for a new one.
Saw the third quarter, and then had little interest in the last given the result was locked in.

I'm always happy to watch Collingwood lose, but time restrictions don't allow me to be interested in most other games.
Simply I have better things to do than watch teams other than the Swans play.

I always have teams to support in finals. Have done most years for over thirty. Finals football has a great atmosphere.

Yeah, you're right. It amazes me how many people go for the rubbish that they push though.

                    Yeah, me too.

I just love watching footy. On the weekend - I went to see the Buddy show on friday night, watched the Crows/Pies game on TV in my hotel room saturday afternoon, then went to our game and flew back into Melbourne yesterday morning to see Geelong destroy St.Kilda.

I normally hope the underdog wins but if we're not playing, I'm really not that fussed who wins.

I really hope we win on Friday night. That's not just to extend the joy of last Saturday's win but also to stick it to the Melbourne media. The Vic coverage of the Swans has always be woeful but it has descended to disgusting as they feel the team ready to fall and, sniffing blood, can't wait to put the boot in.

Beating the Doggies would make reading the sports pages so much sweeter. If the unimaginable happened and we then beat the Cats and so knocked out Victoria's Great White (and Blue) hope, I'd discover true euphoria.

What about that Greg Baum (?) piece about Sydney's aging list that appeared on Sunday? It was obviously written in the expectation that we'd lose. It'd been subbed slightly to reflect our win but then just came across as sour grapes.

Conversely, I can't understand people getting really excited about a game that the Swans aren't playing in. I guess it's a matter of priorities (or horses for courses), and football probably isn't in the top 5 on my list. Having said that, I miss footy season when it is over and always look forward with anticipation to the next one starting.
