Why didn't you go on Saturday?

I was at the game, and enjoyed it - and the atmosphere was good. But it made me cringe to see such a pathetic attendance.
Everything was against us - the weather, the ticket prices, minimal publicity, trackwork, no support or hatred for the opposition (boo a roo was 7 years ago and no-one hates North any more). Surely that's as low as it can possibly go; but it was a terrible crowd number and there is no positive spin that can be put on it.
But we have a problem, and it can't be dismissed as a one-off. While crowds around the rest of the AFL have gone up, Sydney's crowds are down.
I wonder whether the Swans have become the innocent victims of something else - in the Sydney sporting scene our game isn't the only one with those problems. In the NRL, Queensland crowds have gone up spectacularly while crowds in Sydney have collapsed. In the A-League, Sydney FC got less than 17,000 for the grudge match against Melbourne Victory then barely scraped 5 figures against Perth Glory.
The state of the economy could be a factor. Sydney sports crowds grew while the economy was doing well; but now that we're sinking into recession, and housing stress and petrol prices are biting hard, people don't have the disposable income to attend sporting events any more.

WHATEVER.......I have supported them and went to all the games and was a member of the club up until I moved to Cairns and haven't been able to go to there games, if that makes me not a real fan then so be it, but if you would like to pay for my airfares and accommodation then i would be willing to go every weekend.Comment

They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

A useful thread. I'm sure the AFL crack marketing team will be monitoring very closely. I love the fact that they were running promos for the Swans-North game on TV five hours after the match.
(My lame excuse: In Adelaide. Saw Collingwood win for 2nd time in three weeks)

Was there a Swans game on Last week? You wouldn't have known it in Wollongong even if you watch as much TV as I do, and it's a bit, because I work afternoon shift and have a hard drive recorder. I can tell you it's not easy to convince people down here to spend 75 bucks for a game of footy when they can go to the league in a league town, for 20 bucks. If I thought there woould be 60 - 80 thou there, I would have gone on my own, even though I'm broke anyway. I reckon I could've borrowed from some fool

I live in Tassie! Watched it on TV.
Cant wait to see AFL live and my Swans in a home and away fixture down here. The AFL are fooling themselves and also letting down those that keep it going, the fans, if they think West Sydney deserve a team before us.
Keep playing the swans out there for all I care, Swans will win and the AFL and west Syd will be embarassed on a national stage.
was interesting down here in NAB cup, Tassie govt paying $15mill to hawthorn over 3 years. Hawks vs swans saw 3 times the amount of Swans supporters go! was awesomeComment
