    O'Keefe takes aim at critics

    Source
"People have got opinions and are always going to write us off," said O'Keefe, who was an All-Australian in 2006 and has made the shortlist of 40 nominees this year.

"It does fire the players up and it does get a bit annoying.

"If people want to keep writing us off, we'll keep proving them wrong."
Did anyone see Amon's interview last night?
He may win tool of the week with his execution of the English Language.

They are talking like Rocky Balboa. In Amons case literally apparently.

    As Rocky said:

What's so crazy about standing toe to toe with someone saying "I am"?

Do the players realise it was actually their coach who wrote them off?

Might be more accurate to say that he challenged them. And they responded.

no, that can't be. that would mean that a premiership coach and 300+ player might not only know more about footy and his plans than some on this site but also not feel the need to explain himself to them.

surely it's easier for everyone if he's just an arrogant overachiever.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

According to some here Matthews, Blight, Sheedy and Malthouse don't know much about football.

"It's unlikely we're going to do much damage over the next few weeks," a brutally honest Roos said after the match.

To beat this guy, you need speed - you don't have it. And your knees can't take the pounding, so hard running is out. And you got arthritis in your neck, and you've got calcium deposits on most of your joints, so sparring is out. So, what we'll be calling on is good ol? fashion blunt force trauma. Horsepower. Heavy-duty, cast-iron, piledriving punches that will have to hurt so much they'll rattle his ancestors. Every time you hit him with a shot, it's gotta feel like he tried kissing the express train. Yeah! Let's start building some hurtin' bombs!

Don't know what Roosey said at half time on Saturday night but we came out with heavy duty horse power.

Interesting that the team's current resurgence is the result of the coach's rev-up during the week and at half time, but when the team is struggling it is because the players can't perform sufficiently well. Seems rather one-sided.

Comes down to the question everyone wants answered: how do you switch players on? Is it up to them? The coach? The alignment of the planets? Nobody seems to know, but we can certainly tell the difference.
Roos was right, they were not going to do much damage the way they were travelling when he said that; but perhaps to say so made the difference.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

And Roos has not ruled out dropping some of his underperforming senior players and blooding more youngsters next week and in the finals.

According to Barry Hall, Roos doesn't play mind games and was just speaking the truth.

A few people have suggested that when Roosy came out a couple of weeks ago and said he thought it was the end of an era he was playing mind games to motivate the players.

I don't really think mind games are Roosy's thing.
