Connolly, Bevo posts aside you're quite perceptive and knowledgable but this one has me perplexed.
Hammo haven't written the kid off but he really was thrown in at the deep end. He has the break to think about it. He is a classy young foootballer with enormouse potential. Hopefully he'll toughen up.

      Hammo, I admire your restraint.

There are a number of posters on here whose expectations of younger players are so completely unrealistic. What makes it worse, they are probably the same people (or some of the same people) who bemoan the lack of opportunities given to younger players, spend half the season calling for such or such youngster to get a senior game despite never having watched them play, and then bag them after a game or two because they've not won the game off their own boot.

Veszpremi didn't have a great match. But let's face it, he had a good number of team mates. Yes, he made some notable mistakes, but he's not the first player to ever get run down from behind. And no, he's not even the first player to ever instinctively shirk contact. But he had a couple of nice touches too, including one great long kick that moved the ball forward quickly and from which someone (can't remember who) took a mark in front of goal.

The only "question mark" over Vez is how long it's going to take him to elevate his fitness to a level where he can take stints on ball. I've seen this guy play in the midfield (against far inferior opposition, of course) and he moves through traffic intuitively and seems to have great vision of what is happening ahead of him. And, of course, he's got a great long kick on him.

Good post Liz. I didn't see him shirk but if he did I will take it as a given. Sitting behind the goals makes it difficult to pick up anything past the centre circle. Many a good player will take it on board when it is put to them by the coach and their team mates, and he would have known as soon as it happened that you just don't do that. Self incrimination is a powerful tool.

He did get a knock to the head so that will take the wind out of the sails of a 5 game player. I reckon he has got almost everything to set him up as a top player, and another poster on here from seeing him in his junior days says Meredith is not far off him.

Did you say vision; add anticipation to that, the intangible of a footballer. All the very best footballers excel in this area. The great lacking of our team is anticipation at centre bounce clearances. Our midfield is slow and labourious and a player with superior leg speed with genuine anticipation is gold to a side.

Judd, Cousins and Kerr are perfect examples.

I didn't think he should have been picked against the Bulldogs. He was and whilst it might have been a learning experience for him, Vez was out of his depth. After some of his reactions in the final, next season he will be really physically tested. Hopefully he stands up to it.

Meredith's run and long kick from about 1'00 certainly give us something to look forward to

                  Nico / Hammo

Vespa & Brett will be the future of our club.
Ive followed them for years and I wont bang on about them, though both of them are great kids and from what Im told are settled in Sydney.
Brett is very similar to Joel Selwood and he will step up, just unlucky with injuries this year.
Hammos right cant believe some peoples critisim on Vespa.
Sure he had a shocker on Friday night, though many on here didnt think he would play 6 games including some astute watchers of the 2s.
Some kids though are just better when surrounded by the best and once Paddy gets some miles in the legs and some base fitness he will be a star.
Left the ground Friday night at least thinking :
                  Moore,Bird,Jack,Vespa,Odwyer,Smith,Brabazon all made debuts.
Are we worse of than this time last year ??
