Would someone define what they believe a Leader is in the context of an AFL footballer and the qualities they must have to be a true leader in our game.

I think these players should retire or be delisted. Spida has already retired so I shall proceed to the others. Leo Barry, Nick Davis, Nic Fosdike, Ben Matthews, Henry Playfair, LRT & Tim Schmidt. Firstly Leo, he has been a wonderful player for us but as he ages his decission making is getting worse not better & he ain't getting any faster. Nic Fosdike hardly spent any time on the park this year & as happens to some players as they age he has become injury prone. Davis gave us a few good years but has an attitude problem. It is obvious that Benny so injury free for so long is now injury prone & has trouble keeping up with the small forwards. Henry Playfair is the worst buy we have had for a long time, the Cats knew he was injury prone & he doesn't take the strong contested mark indicative of a gun tall forward. LRT is not strong enough to play a key position & is just a journeyman, makes too many mistakes. Tim Schmidt just hasn't made it, a pity cos he has plenty of grunt & hardness just not enough talent. while Martin Mattner has been quite good this year he has a habit of undoing his good work with poor delivery or bad decission making. Maybe a new role for him next year, he was a reasonably good midfielder/small forward early in his career. Ed Barlow & Luke Brennan must also be close to delisting."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

STEVENS wasn't.
[QUOTE]
Stevens was good enough...he just wasn't getting enough game time and was promised a better deal at Adelaide. Roos let him go for free as a nice gesture (so he wouldn't have to go into the draft.) HE wanted out of the Swans.
History has clearly demonstrated that he is no world beater...but he's a lot better than LRT. Plus...as was always the case...he is a VERY accurate shot for goal.
Interesting that he went for free to Adelaide...yet we paid pick 19 for Ted who is barely (if at all) a better player...perfect example of Roos being a very, very poor draft negotiator....
We got nothing for Dempster, yet Mattner cost us 24......Huh????????
We got nothing for Stevens, yet Richards cost us 19......Huh????????
Spida for 35!!! (he was out of contract, we could have had him for free)
Chambers for 35!!!! Disgraceful
We paid well above market rate for Jolly, but it has turned out to be fair value."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Actually I'd like to see some of the stars get tribute games. It could be on a Saturday night in October or something and would be a great way for fans to farewell retiring players or thank long serving players for their commitment and loyalty. The gate money could then go to a worthy charity or cause of choice of the player(s) the tribute is for. A similar thing happens in English football and has proven quite popular, can't see why it wouldn't work here aswell.Comment

The problem is that I'm really, really struggling to think of a side who might have an interest in NOG. Melbourne if they're feeling desperate?
It also notes that Tim Schmidt has a possible limited future at the Swans. However, recent serious knee injury sufferers who have less than 20 games across 5 seasons on a senior list, aren't notorious for attracting a lot of trade interest. I would be surprised if anyone other than Port or Adelaide were interested in biting (the former has some need for his sort of player, the latter absolutely none), and even then they would give purely token value unless we were interested in a fringe player of theirs (Adam Thompson-- but really, what's the point? Why wouldn't we just both keep our own?).Comment

Hardly page 1 stuff, but for the completists: rookie Dean Terlich flew over to Adelaide for the Norwood FC presentation night last weekend as a potential new recruit (to join 4 other ex-Swans there). Which presumably means he's already been told he's goneski.Comment

Delistings
Spida, Benny and Davis are gone
We picked up Shaw so that leaves only 2 spots on the list will we only use our first 2 picks in a super strong draft or will there be some more delistings?
If so who will go?
Brennan?
Crouch?
Brabazon?
Fosdike?Comment

Unsure of Brabazon but Brennan would have probably been on a 1 year deal last year, but he provides cover/depth as KP defender if needed.
Out of all them, Brabazon would be in the gun but he probably did enough this year to stay on the list.
I reckon it could be just the minimum two picks at 12 and 30 if ROK stays.
