According to the Sun Herald today (property section) Hall has put his Malabar house up for sale.

I could live with that. I would actually be inclined to use both our first-round draft picks rather than trade them away for players if that happened. A lot of the top-10 picks of the last couple of years have been pretty much ready to step up to senior footy straight away, as the clubs have gotten better at identifying the best talent at the top end of the draft. I understand why Roosy's been skeptical of the draft in the past, but it's becoming less of a lottery than it used to be, especially in the first round.

There is absolutely no way the Dogs or are any other side are going to offer a first round pick for Hall, let alone throw in another player who was a first round pick as part of the deal.

We have only two players that would fetch a top 10 pick and that is Goodes and maybe O'Keefe.

You're right DST, and of course, this is all pure speculation. I doubt the Dogs will give up their first round pick, but in this case they are the ones who need a key forward so if they had their eye on Hall they would have to persuade us to let him go. Spida still cost us a second-rounder and Hall has more left in him than Spida did 2 years ago (arguably) so you never know.

Nice response... First round from the 'Dogs wouldn't be top 10 - it would be about #15. 'Dogs need a key forward and Hall would make them a genuine premiership contender in '09 and '10. That would be worth a decent trade.

I forgot about that when I read DST's post, I reckon pick #15 would be closer to the mark but I don't know if Hall would command a player on top of the first-round pick.

Possibly not, but maybe so depending on the 'Dogs other options. They need a key forward and there aren't too many on the market.

I repeat, there is no way the Dogs or any other side are going to trade a first round pick for Hall.

If they are looking for a stop gap measure, then Nathan Thompson would be better suited and he comes for nothing.

                        They're not looking for a stop-gap - they're looking for a key forward.

If they are going to off load a first round pick for Hall then they are looking for a stop gap signing to snare a premiership next year.

Thompson for free would probably give exactly what the Doggies are looking for, a bail out go long option when under pressure.

Hall is no different to someone like Robert Murphy, he works his player over and plays his best football when he is getting space and moving laterly.

Possibly the worst post I have ever read.
Thompson is NOT what the Dogs are looking for. "Stop Gaps" do not win you a premiership. Thommo was useless at the Kangas, and he'll be the same at the Dogs. He cant run, cant take a pack grab and is an average kick. Used to be great value but his time has passed.

Hall is not just a "bail out option". Thats what good forwards are great for, but they are more than just a contest on a forward flank. You become a liability if thats all you are good for.

Hall and Murphy are similar? Come on mate. When I see Murphy crash a pack and cause a spoil I'll reason with you. He is a good overhead grab, and a strong lead. Finals showed him up as a dud player when under the pump.
He and Hall are VERY different footballers.

The reality is, with this list, our Premiership window is closed. We can go for Kerr, but will need to give up O'Keefe. Doesnt really give us a greater overall advantage.
What we need are good young players coming through. Some Vespas through the midfield. A potential KPP for down back. At the moment, we are not a chance at a flag anytime soon.
