    Barry Hall to Bulldogs rumour

Keeps popping up on BF and in the media. Interesting.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

If it were true we would have the upper hand as he is contracted till next year but we would be an absolute rabble in season 09 if we lost him.

          Makes sense.

There is no premiership coming in whatever time Hall has left.

Get a young kid for him while he has some currency.

Thats it. The reality is, the premiership window has closed for blokes like Hall and O'Keefe at the Swans. And with the GC Team destroying the draft over the next 2 seasons, we can not afford to get high picks over the next 2 years. It needs to be this year that we cash in on the draft. There are some very high quality young players available.
Hall and O'Keefe will not win another premiership at the Swans. But if we trade them for high draft picks for some very good young players, we may in 4-5 years. Otherwise the team will not improve in the coming years, and we'll stay a middle of the road team, unable to compete with the Cats and Hawks.
Hall has one year of good footy left, and Friday night showed that the Dogs are a key forward away from being a serious contender. He suits them perfectly. Trade Hall for a first rounder to them.
O'Keefe would be hot property at Carlton. The need a foil for Fev and someone who can play further from goal. They would give up a lot for O'Keefe, especially as their window is beginning to open. They just need to strengthen the poles, as their midfield is exceptional.

The Doggies fans don't seem to object to this rumour as they need a big forward. Given that he's still contracted to the club, the Swans would want to be well compensated.

barry hall is going nowhere, neither is O'Keefe, no club would want to trade their first round draft picks, i suggest the club start to focus on the draft.

Article in today's Sun Herald real estate pages shows Barry Hall is selling his Mattraville residence to move to the coastal eastern sububs the heartland of many Swans players. Page 50 - Domain

All this is a double edged sword. Every club will be thinking the same way: "strewth if we don't get in some good trades this year then we are stuffed". So every man and his dog will be picking over the bones of the likes of Geelong.

Then again if they think this is the last chance for a few years to pick up quality in the draft all clubs will be hell bent on trying for the absolute best they can snag in the draft.

But if you trade away someone like ROK who has at least 4 years left in him you are losing a quality player from your core who seriously is irreplaceable in this scenario. Why would you do it?

Clubs like Geelong and Hawthorn won't want to trade away their depth, because for them to stay at the top in the coming draft scenario they both have to keep their second stringers for as long as they can, and may have to spread their cap to accomodate that.

In effect we are seen as sliders but maybe the nucleus of youth coming through will hold us up while other clubs such as St Kilda with not much depth will drop off. Collingwood seen as not having a side of quality, have one thing in their favour, youth.

The next couple of years as I see it will see Geelong and Hawthorn continue to dominate because of their lists. Then again in 2 years a lot of Geelong players will be well into the 2nd half of their careers.

Will it mean that clubs will hold onto experience whereas the current trend is to go for youth? A real balancing act coming up for clubs and I think it is of absolute importance we hang onto whatever quality we have.

The GC get the cream in the next few years, then bingo along comes West Sydney with the same scenario. Is it predicatable that the equalisation theory of the draft will work in the opposite direction with mediocrity being the order of the day for a number of years?

I think we have to hold on to as many of our younger players as possible and hope that they come on such as Orreal. There is method in their madness with the Canadian and Coney the Irishman, as you have to think where in the hell quality players are going to come from. Can we expect another Orreal in this year's draft/rookie noms?
