If you are tackled within a step of picking the ball there is no prior opportunity. If you are gang tackled to the ground there is no chance you can dispose of it and a ball up is the correct decision.
Geelong were at times disadvantaged by the free kicks due to dodgy advantage calls. At least twice it was brought back when they had taken it away and in the clear, while once it was called advantage when a Geelong player was under pressure and turned it over. Very inconsistent.
There was also the free against Rooke when Rioli tackled him. Fantastic effort by Rioli but Rooke handballed it and normally that would be play on.
Regardless of all the complaining about the umpiring, as usual it had no impact and would not have done regardless of who won.
