    Ben Cousins

Strange, expected to come onto the board this afternoon and see it in Ben Cousins meltdown mode.....................

Strong rumour in Melbourne that he has met with the Swans yesterday in Melbourne and he will be announcing Sydney as his choice on Saturday morning. Makes sense as to what Dean Cox was talking to Roos about a week ago, Sydney were obivously doing some homework on Ben.

Personally if he comes to us via the PSD, then he would be a fantastic addition to th midfield for the next couple of years, not to mention his training ethic as pointer to our younger midfielder brigade.

Would still be a better option than Kerr, which isn't saying much. Our midfield has needed a bit of class for a while now, and he could do the job.

He'd have to spend at least a year with the ressies ... he hasn't played for 18 months.
      By then he'd be 32.

      Not a good option.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Don't think so. The Swans are so careful when it comes to dealing with the media, I don't think they would let Cousins announce them as his choice on GF morning.

There's no way he'd be out that long. Watson was out for a year and played 16 games in his comeback season, Salmon played 12 in his after a year out, Dew has played 14. Look at people coming from a full year out through injury, like Bradshaw and Stevens, who played full seasons in 2008.

Considering Cousins has been keeping in reasonable shape, he certainly wouldn't need long to get ready.

If they were getting Cousins for a single pre-season draft pick, I don't think they'd give a stuff how or when it was announced.

With the baggage that Cousins carries, and the amount of media coverage his announcement would attract, I would certainly think (and hope) so.

However much I badmouthed cousins when he was at west coast during the 05/06 seasons and the whole 'drugs' issue aside, he was always a great player, one of the hardest working (I seem to remember that every game he played he would vomit at some stage during the match by the force of having run himself ragged for his team) I've ever seen. And so it comes as a surprise to myself that I'm really truly excited by this rumour. I hope to god it's true as Ben is EXACTLY the sort of player we need at our club next year. He has true class, something we lack at times. I've also got the sense that he's turned a corner of sorts since the end of the whole drugs saga last year...not really sure why i think that....and so i think sydney would be the perfect place for him to be. Change of scenery, not in melbourne...a match made in heaven.

And whats more...we won't need to give up draft picks or whatnot.
I wonder what sort of contract he's been offered?

Yes. That was definitely why he was vomiting.

Amazing how quickly people change their tune once a player has been linked to their team.

I don't see a particularly logical argument for any other reason as to why he would be vomiting on the field. It would be an unusual reaction for his drug use, which would not be in close proximity to taking the field even if he was using then.

But not that long ago plenty of people here would have been citing it as evidence of his drug use.

That's the point. Withdrawal, as he isn't able to "get his fix" close to game time. Although I'm not sure if nausea is directly associated with ice withdrawal, it could definitely be an indication of a poor state of physical health brought about by Cousins' abuse of ice.

BSA5 - I think you are way off track and maybe haven't watched that many of his games because he is an absolutely incredible athlete who was one of the hardest runners in the game - think ROK in terms of km's covered but more explosive.
He is a deadset gun on the field.
I'll be very surprised if he comes to Sydney but I think it's worth a punt. He is doing everything asked of him in terms of recovery. I hope he gets a second chance because he is such a talented player.

I can think of many, many professional athletes who have been seen vomiting after a particularly arduous performance.

To try and link that to drug use, or any major issue with physical conditioning, is drawing a long bow.

I'd rather Cousins than Kerr tbh (Never thought I'd say a good word about BC). They're both great players with baggage and risk. Cousins is just a hell of alot cheaper.

Why is it so strange that people who hated BC would support him if he came to the Swans (I'll put my hand up here)? Good ol fashioned bias, but that's fine when you're supporting your footy club imo.
