ROK had a string of good games in this part of the season.....

RWO could be an interesting place if he wins and goes.

Round 11 v West Coast, Subaico.

BEST: Goodes, Kirk, Malceski, J Bolton, Richards, O'Keefe, Kennelly

After cleaning up West Coast in round 4, the eagles came out with the intent of making amends. 6 goals to zip in the first qtr and the swans were looking down the barrel in the west. Then 2 goals a piece in the 2nd, but still down by 6 goals. After half time, the swans played with a touch more intensity and the top tier of players stood up, Kirk, Goodes, Kennelly and O'Keefe. The others picked up there games in response and the lead was suddenly reduced to 2 goals. Much work was still needed. The Eagles led for the rest of the game, until Jude Bolton received a free kick with just over a minute to. He nailed it and became the hero of the night. The swans by 5 points in a thriller.

Round 12 v St Kilda, SCG.

BEST: O'Keefe, O'Loughlin, Goodes, Kirk, Jack, McVeigh

Hall back after his "indiscretion", Everitt out and Bird in.
Saints get the first after a 10 minute stalemate, then the game turned into a goal for goal almost, with the swans getting the slight advantage. Hall was having the better of Hudghton and Goddard, O'Keefe was running amok, and Jack was relishing some rare freedom in the middle. A late goal to O'Keefe gave the swans a 26 point half time lead.
The 2nd half was relatively even, with the swans holding on for a 35 point win.

          Round 13 v Melbourne, Manuka.

BEST: Hall, Kirk, Mattner, Jolly, C.Bolton, O'Loughlin

The swans played all over the Dees in the first qtr, but someone forgot to tell them they were the cellar dwellers, especially a man named Bate. They managed to put a bit of a scare into the swans camp by putting on some consecutive goals and getting themselves back into the game. The swans steadied the ship and ran away with a 6 goal win.
          Hall finished with 5 goals.

Round 14 v Collingwood, ANZ Stadium.

          BEST: C Bird, L Barry, B Kirk, J McVeigh, D Jolly, J Bolton

One of the nemesis teams. Due to some awful kicking the swans managed to trail by 2 points at the first break, but the Pies broke the game open in the second, keeping the swans scoreless. Hall had another night to forget, and no player scored mulitple goals. The swans were never really in the contest and due to a few late goals, managed a more respectable 29 point loss.

                Round 15 v Hawthorn, MCG.

BEST: Kirk, Goodes, Bird, Jolly, Ablett

The Hawks have been a win for us in recent years, but in the past 3-4 months the Hawks juggernaut has improved greatly on the back of one Buddy Love. Contain him, and you have a chance of winning. Well, the swans managed to contain him for a while, but between the twin towers of Roughead and Franklin, and the smaller Williams, one of the usually gets the job done, and it was Williams turn, to keep their score ticking over. He finished the game with 4 goals, as did Franklin, with Roughead chipping in with 3. The Hawks had the swans measure for most of the game,
Kirk again was best afield. 31 point loss.

BEST: J. Bolton, O'Keefe, Jolly, Moore, McVeigh, Mattner, Bevan

Another team that has been our bunny for many years, and also with a dangerous forward in Fevola, who finished with 5 goals.
They were on fire and desperate for a win. They opened the scoring and except for some easy misses, could've had a match winning lead by qtr time, but the swans midfield lifted, and the game almost became a shootout. The Blues continued to poor on the scoreboard pressure, as the swans slowly pegged back the lead. The swans hit the lead towards the end of the last term, and managed to hang on, helped by an Eddie Betts miss in the dying minute.
Swans by 2 points in a high scoring game. McVeigh 4 goals, O'Keefe 3.

                  Round 17 v Adelaide, SCG.

                  BEST: O'Keefe, Kirk, Kennelly, Bird

Adelaide at one of their weakest times. Supposedly. Porplyzia back in the Crows team after some injuries, and not expected to be too effective. 5 goals wasn't too effective. But considering the swans only scored 6 goals, it was a match winning effort. The swans struggled infront of goals again, kicking 17 behinds. Both teams even failed to score a goal in the 3rd, term. 24 point loss. No multiple goal kickers. O'Keefe continues to play well against the crows, but usually in a losing team.

BEST: McVeigh, O'Keefe, J. Bolton, Veszpremi, Richards, Hall

In an instant replay of the earlier encounter, Sydney score early too lead at qtr time, only to have that lead smashed in the 2nd term. 8 goals to 1 sets up a match winning lead, and whilst the swans won the 2nd half, they could not overcome the half time deficit, and succumbed to the dogs, by 16 points.
McVeigh kicked a career high 6 goals, while Hall nailed 3.
Veszpremi named in the best for his debut game.

BEST: J Bolton, Goodes, Bevan, Hall, Kennelly, Kirk

Goodes strugggling with a groin injury and is plonked the goal square paying dividends in what was a tightly contested game.
Fremantle led for most of the game, giving the swans a good shake, and could have won the game had Pavlich not missed a gettable goal. The swans over running the determined Dockers in the last few minutes to steal victory. Goodes finished with 8 goals and Hall 4

BEST: Hall, Bevan, J Bolton, Kennelly, Bird, Buchanan

The reigning premiers, flag favourites, and virtually unbeatable juggernaut team comes to Sydney.
Too quick, too strong, too skilful, too good. That's the 2008 Cats, and the comparision applies not just to their opponents on Saturday night but, one would think, every other team in the competition. The Swans were, in many ways, gallant in defeat, keeping the running going right up to the end. But when you only have one player - Hall - clearly winning his position, it is hard to stay in the hunt in a match for very long.
Hall finished with 5, and was clearly best on ground for the swans.

                            How exciting!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Even if McVeigh maxxes all remaining games he can't catch Kirk for this medal!
