Horrible news for fearless.
I seriously hope there is still some spark there for him to get back in our best 22 but it definitely looks like 09 will be his final AFL year.

That's a real shame. Love the way he plays. Never a star, but always a solid contributor, and fearless competitor. Even if he never plays another game, which seems to be the most likely outcome, I'll always remember his 2005 GF performance, and the countless other games in which he busted his gut and ran all day for us.
Of course, this could be just another media beat-up with very little actual basis, other than Fossie's knee aching a little. Here's hoping.
Fosdike always was a team player and this could be his biggest contribution yet. Anyway, the chase for Cousins is winding away the Summer months bit by bit even my hopes turn out to be false.
Wonder if Fosdike thought his career could be over at 28
Doesn't add much if he can't run all day- his main strength. Always thought he is an athlete rather than a footballer, so no loss.
I second the 'Cuz' call.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.
A handy, and oft-underrated, player whose name will forever be enshrined in any 'best players' list in the GF that broke a 72 year drought. If this is as it seems, he'll be missed.
Although if he does become a long-term injury lister, one of our many rookies will definitely get a chance to push his name forward for selection in '09.

Your hopes ARE false.
We aren't going to ask Fosdike to give up a years salary so we can draft Ben Cousins. What sort of message do you think that would send to the playing group?? We'll get rid of great servents of this club to bring in a player who has a questionable past and has played less than 10 games in 2 years and in that times has had at least 4 hamstring injuries. Yep thats sound judgement right there.
If we did Fosdike to give up a years salary it would be so we could use it on a rookie promotion or a pick in the Pre Season Draft which would go on another 18 year old kid.
Also you can forget about us cutting Fosdike to get a Pre Season Draft Pick because we aren't dumb enough to risk going over the salary cap for 2008 which would mean a fine and the risk of losing draft picks in next years draft. We aren't going to go after Cousins at the cost of a fine and a Pick in next year's draft, regardless how good he was if that is the price we have to pay.
If Fosdike does have to give the game away as it looks like he will he'll be put on the Long Term Injury list and be allowed to keep his final years salary. Then the club will promote a Rookie Listed Player. Ben Cousins is no chance of being the replacement for Nic Fosdike.
Leaving aside unlikelihood or lack of wisdom, it's no longer technically possible.
3rd and final team lists were lodged with the AFL Wednesday 2pm. Club senior lists from that point can no longer be changed (beyond PSD picks being used for those clubs that have them). Our senior list is full.
It wouldn't matter if Nic Fosdike announced his retirement today. He would still be on the Swans' senior list in 2009; just as Phil Matera, Nathan Ablett and Michael Voss remained on their club's senior lists for a year after their retirement.
Was Nick ultimately affected by the levels of ink injected into his left arm? Kenny Everitt had the same affliction, costing him all form and longevity in the game.....
